My work's exchange email account requires us to encrypt our phones.

I have tried encrypting through the settings menu. When I do, I go through the steps, make sure my phone is plugged into the charger, enter my PIN then confirm I wan to encrypt the phone. I see a brief flash of the android logo, then the screen turns completely black (but is still on) and the notification LED turns orange. The phone will stay this way for hours. The only way to get the phone back to normal is to do a [Power/Vol-UP] reset.

Possibly a bad device?

I have run the encryption through the settings menu. I have also tried to run it when i get the notification from the exchange app that my exchange account requires additional security.

I have tried deleting the exchange account and re-adding it as this phone was a replacement of my HTC M8 and all the content on it came from the HTC backup app.

Anyone seen this before? I'm totally baffled.

Did a quick search and found this:https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/88131

Have you tried contacting your carrier to see if they know about or have a work around for the issue?

Thanks for replying.

I spent a good deal of time on the phone with HTC support this morning and I'm happy to report I have the issue resolved. :)

The issue appears to have happened because the M9 was loaded with a backup of my M8 which was encrypted.

I factory reset my phone. Chose not to load a backup, then added my Exchange email account information.

Once prompted to encrypt the phone in the Exchange setup process, it worked. It only took about 5 minutes to encrypt the phone. I had to manually download a few apps, but well worth the trouble.

My company also requires encryption. How is the performance while encrypted? My M7 will at times run extremely slow - have you noticed a considerable degradation? Is it any different than the M8 when encrypted?

I too would like to know but it seems AC doesn't have a large number of folks using their forums. Questions go unanswered in many threads.
