I got so tired of all these false rumors, I just went ahead and loaded up Scott's ICS CleanRom after the Best Buy rumor a few weeks ago. Been running ICS flawlessly for the last two weeks on my Rezound. Nice and smooth.. almost like vanilla ICS with the Apex launcher and a few other tweaks. I just couldn't wait anymore. Glad I didn't. When the official releases, I'll just load up Scott's version of that one as well since I prefer his performance and battery tweaks. <sleeping like a baby tonight> :D

That's cool. I don't have the guts to root my phone. I'm sick of the false rumors too. I came across this and just decided to post it; false or not. Hopefully not lol.

The size in MB they list is not possible to be ICS. Most all of the custom ones based off of the leak were closer to 500mb.

Couldn't the file size be smaller on an update to ICS vs. a custom ROM? I don't think the ICS update would need to include any of the assets that are already on the phone (wallpapers, icons, pre-installed bloatware, etc.). It only needs to include assets that are being updated. On a custom ROM however, your starting from scratch, so you have to include every asset the phone needs.

I'm not a developer so I don't really know what I'm talking about, I'm just trying to make an educated guess. :)

Yes and no. If you look at things that we know need to be upgraded, just the SystemUI, Framework-res, and com.htc.resources add up to 100MB. And those are just framework support files. So it's possible but I wouldn't trust a partial upgrade.

And to go along with that thought...a full ICS ROM (Cyanogenmod or Kangs) runs about 116-120mb with the google apps (market, etc) running about 50mb for my HP Touchpad. Assuming the Rezound OTA indeed does not need a separate google apps install or will not wipe and replace everything on the device it seems possible. I have just recently gotten my Rezound and not looked much into rooting yet (lack of S-OFF and possible impending ICS official have me waiting) but are custom roms for this phone really about 500mb in size? Makes me wonder why there is such a huge difference between the tablet version of ICS (like on my Touchpad) and one that is installed on a phone?

Standard ICS ROMs (AOSP) run about 200MB or less.

ICS ROMs (Sense) run about 500-600MB

ICS ROMs (DeSensed) run about 300MB

Notice how much Sense adds on? Another part of this is that most if not all of the Rezound ROMs are full ROMs which will be bigger than an upgrade ROM. When I pulled the image of one of the previous leaks, it was a little over 1GB. That should show you how disproportionate things are.

That's very interesting, thanks for that information. That is crazy to know how much "bloat" (if you wanna call it that) Sense adds to a vanilla ICS. Not to mention the VZW preinstalled apps which I assume add quite a bit of weight as well.

Not saying I'm sold, but it's sure better than than the best buy rumor...
