Well, today I joined the Android community and used my upgrade to purchase the Samsung Infuse. This is my first time ever using Android, so I'm definitely having a learning curve here. I've always been loyal to Apple and I've had the iPhone all the way from the original till the iPhone 4. I just figured I wanted a little bit of change for a while ... and thought I'd see what Android is about. I would like to think I picked a good phone to bring in my Android life lol, I hope it works out.

First impressions, I'm definitely loving the much larger screen. The texting seems to be easier to do, I've made less typos, lol. I'm so used to Apple, so to me it feels like it takes too many steps to get to some apps - and I don't like to clutter my home screen, so it's like I go from my home screen to the app browser, then the app. Ah well, minor personal preference there. And maybe it's just me, but the battery seems to take FOREVER to charge! I've had it plugged in for about 2 hours now and it's barely gone up about 20%. I've read that it takes a few cycles for the battery to get into a normal charging/draining routine and after the first few charges it'll be better. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Anyways, just wanted to say hello .. and if anyone wants to offer an Android newbie some advice, send it my way!

Welcome to the forums. Im glad you made yourself a nice switch to the land of Android :). The good thing about it is that you didnt switch from Iphone to a cheap Android Device. The Infuse is one of the best Android Handsets out right now so you made a great choice to start fresh with Android with a bangin handset!

There is one drawback with the Infuse. The Battery does take a long time to charge. Even if you go through cycles, its still gonna take awhile to charge. I just charge mine overnight while it sits as a desktop clock on the side of my bed. Also, Ive noticed with this device that the battery gets eatin up quickly. I had the Atrix, and that phone was by far the best with Battery Life. Ive downloaded a program called Juice Defender and use that. It switches your mobile network and wifi off while the phone is asleep and kicks the data network back on in 15 minute (when left on balenced) intervals so your apps like email, facebook can sync. Its really not that long but that saves on the battery big time. I can go the whole day with normal use on the phone with that program installed.

But for charging the battery quick, ehh. Not this phone lol. Might want to get a back up battery on ebay. I plan to eventually do that myself. Or, if you start getting into hacking and loading custom roms. The Infused Rom is tinkered to be great with battery life. No need for juice defender with that ROM. But play with the phone for a bit before you try to get your hands dirty (if you so choose).

And again. Welcome to the board! Ask all of your questions here and myself and others in the forum will help you out the best we can. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I got recommended the Infuse because it's interface was similar to the iPhone, so they said I'd be able to understand it a little more. The more I play around with it and stuff, the more I'm getting used to it ... I keep noticing how sensitive the touch screen is lol, I'll barely handle the phone and when I look at the screen there's all these menus up that I didn't know I pressed. My aunt has used Android for a while and she suggested I install Advanced Task Killer to kill background apps when I close them, and that it'll save battery life. So I'm running that now, and if the battery isn't all that great I'll definitely try out that Juice Defender one. This is probably a stupid question, but do the widgets drain battery life? Right now I have the CNN widget, MLB widget, and this one widget that puts famous quotes on my homescreen every hour. I could see where the CNN and MLB one could drain, since they are updating in the background. I also have WeatherBug, and I noticed it put the temperature on my status bar up top. I have a feeling that'll do some battery damage too, haha. I guess I'll just have to monitor these things and see what happens.

As far as custom roms and all that ... I don't know what that means, lol. Coming from the iPhone, the only thing I was used to doing to "get my hands dirty" was jailbreaking and theming it - I guess flashing the rom is the Android equivalent of that?
