Hi,

Got a new LG G4 - coming over from Blackberry Z10...

LG G4 is a lovely phone. I bought it because I needed a good camera.

Now my concern is when I take pictures, and zoom in to look at the pictures it looks "noisy" or "grainy".

Is this normal and because of zooming in too much? Or is there something wrong with the phone camera.

Any help is very much appreciated

many thanks! .

It's most likely because you're digital zooming, but iso settings affect this too. Increasing the ISO setting helps you take better low light pictures, but at the expense of introducing more grain. Even film cameras have this issue. Faster exposing film just has more graininess to it. You'll never get rid of the grain/noise with digital zooming, but using manual controls to lower the ISO setting can help. Taking RAW photos and then editing them after the fact may also help, but I'm not sure on that. Some of the articles I've read made it sound like RAW has less noise introduced than the camera's default jpeg creation.

I don't think you'll find a phone with a camera better than that of the G4 at the present time, so you haven't bought the 'wrong' phone.

completely agree with belodion, fantastic camera, and if you like total control manual mode can't be beat. RAW & Jpeg ...very versatile.

Can you show us an example by showing us the original picture and then taking a screen shot of it being noisy while zoomed in?

Yes, good idea. This old thread of mine may help you to judge whether anything is amiss with your own G4:

It took me some time to find it. It was quite interesting to look at those comparisons again. :)

I was specifically taking to the OP, but apparently he is a "one and done" poster. Hard to help people if they post a question and never come back.

Yes, I realised that you meant that Mikey, and you're right, it is frustrating when posters don't continue with threads that they've started, especially after multiple responses from members. But hopefully our posts will be useful to others as well. :)
