New Nexus 4 has what i think a couple of problems

Ok last week I bought a Nexus 4, the phone is great i love it, apart from a couple of problems i noticed.

First problem what i think is the coating on the screen I've noticed when i breath on it to clean the smudges with a microfibre cloth, there are 2 distinct marks which are pretty large right in the middle which looks like it's been scuffed, they don't show up under normal lighting conditions an can only be seen if either wet or as mentioned breathed on, other than that the screen looks scratch free under any other lighting condition, I've not dropped the phone or had anything in my pocket with the phone as im careful because i hate scratched screens.

Second problem is a faint vertical banding with dark colours such as grey ect is this normal.

I'm considering RMA my phone back to Google but i also here they hold nearly ?300 until you've returned your phone back to them, I can't afford for this to happen as i have a mortgage to pay for plus other things.

Have you taken off the screen protector like cover that is on both front and back of the device?

As far as the $300 hold for an RMA, that's how they do it. They ship you a new one and refund your money as soon as they get the defective unit back. You might be able to talk them into letting you mail the bad one in first, then send you a replacement, but that would put you out of a phone for a few days. This is how just about every other company handles returns. At least Google keeps you from having to be without service. They just put the charge on your card to make sure you send the bad on back. From my perspective, it's a pretty convenient deal.

Ok no screen protector left on what it looks like is the coating on the gorilla glass itself has started to rub away in a couple of spots, not very good considering my Galaxy S3 never had this problem only had the Nexus 4 a weeks and the coating rubbing away just by being in my pocket with nothing else, never bothered with screen protectors as i've never yet scratched any screen on any phone, as they never go in the pocket with anything else.

The other issue is with the screen being on, the is faint vertical banding that shows up more in certain colours ie grey, it enough to be anoying really, I think a few other have this problem aswell could be a simple case of bad calibration.

eitherway I'm now considering returning this phone for another after the easter holiday's.
