Preordered - had it since the 7th.

You know the good, and it is indeed all good. The camera, s-pen, beautiful screen, respectable battery.

But there are already little things that are cropping up that rub me the wrong way on Samsung's top of the range phone.

- Face ID: This will work (as well as it works on the S8) just fine...until it doesn't. And when it doesn't, it won't work at all. Reboot required every time. Can be a couple of times a day and this is annoying when you need to unlock 40-50 times a day because your exchange email account is configured to require unlock at short intervals if you stop using the phone.
- Google (as in OK google) - This is semi-permanently broken. You try to use it and it says 'App crashed - restart or send feedback. Clearing cache nothing. Uninstall and reinstall fixes the problem...for a maybe half a day.

Tbh, google crapping out is a bit worrying. Phone has minimal apps on it at this point and nothing as fancy as even a custom launcher. Anyone else experiencing similar? Coming from iPhones I know expectations need to be adjusted but this is meant to be Samsung's showpiece all the same.

Not sure why your google assistant isn't working. Had my note 8 a week now as well with a ton of apps installed. No issues. Nothing crashes.

If you already tried clearing the cache maybe try a FDR. I know that seems extreme but it can help. It shouldn't be crashing.

No probs with mine either. Only issue is Tapatalk doesn't give notifications properly. I just haven't uninstalled and reinstalled yet.

I would be interested in knowing if you setup your device clean or did some type of restore from backup/device data transfer? The setup clean (only xfer/restore critical data not apps/configurations) is the best method. Doing a restore/xfer can cause issues. (Config/settings/App compatibility)

Cheers,

The sync with the iphone did 'bring over' some apps (but not really as the android versions of the apps would've been downloaded).

No problems with Face ID here, even working with my new glasses.

I haven't been using Google enough to tell if there are issues with talking to it, but no crashes.

Does Device Maintenance give you any indicators of problems?

Nothing to this extent but some annoyances.... I've currently DM'ing with @SamsungSupport about Trusted Places occasionally still asking for password or iris.

This is a widespread issue not just for the Note 8 or any other Samsung phone. For months now, Google has experienced tons of issues with Trusted Places and Smart Lock, I doubt Samsung can do something about it. My S8+ has been working better lately but basically since its released it had suffered from this.

At home, I've been resetting my Home locations for months now, like I mentioned before, it has been working better lately but still have some random issues now and then. Do a search on the forum for Trusted Places and you will see that practically all brands and models are experiencing this at some point.
