New owner, battery lost 90% overnight in 9 hrs. How to troubleshoot?

My 1 month old BT version gear S3 frontier was running phenomenal getting 3+ days battery life easily and then there was an update just a few days ago to the weather application. That evening my watch dropped almost 30% overnight off my wrist. I went into the gear app on my s8+ to look at battery and the weather was showing 50% usage. Normally it's just watch faces that are that high. Since that update it really hasn't been running as smoothly and battery just keeps declining more rapidly.
So it looks to be that small weather app update. I know it was that application update because I shut off automatic updates. For anyone with auto update on you may not know if an application is causing issues.
Hopefully the Developers at Samsung are experiencing the same thing and will push out an update fast.
I had a issue with weather after that update at %52 usage, I turned off auto update restarted the watch and turned updates back on to update hourly now it seems to be OK after 24 hours I'm at %6 on weather

My watch faces show 71% and weather is 1%
Watch faces can vary tremendously in how they impact battery life. The stock faces are very efficient while some 3rd party faces can drain the battery dry in a handful of hours. For example, when I use Boldindex12 my battery lasts 8-10 hours, when I use Gear Dashboard my battery lasts 12-16 hours, with all other things being equal ie. display always on, LTE always on, usage, etc.

Just a quick update... I reset my watch, enabled Samsung Pay, and downloaded the black onyx watch face and see only 1-2% loss per hour. I noticed that Wi-Fi was on auto, so I didn't change that. I turned on location services, but didn't download Here We Go yet. Even running sleep as android only maxed out at 2% per hour when actively monitoring sleep.

I just restored my backup and going to adjust settings and apps to see what was causing the issue. One thing I've learned is that the usage on the Gear app seems to miss usage by third party apps. I have 2% used by music and no reference to sleep as android despite never using music and having sleep as android running 8 our so hours and about doubling the drain overnight.

That sounds about normal. I'm typically at 1% overnight. My music always shows a small amount too and I never touch it.

I didn't get around to the wifi test but when I went into the setting it warned me about the battery. But I found out I hadn't even used a wifi connection before as nothing was authenticated. It did prompt me one time when I tried to use find my phone but I didn't feel like entering the passcode on the tiny watch keyboard.

My battery has been fine but I'm going to turn off WiFi and see what happens, I don't think I need WiFi anyway just blue tooth right?

My battery has started getting nailed the Last two days. It shows me that It Is Samsung Health eating the battery all of a sudden even though I haven't made any changes. I have restarted the watch a few times but it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.

It is starting to irritate me to the point if considering getting rid of the S3. I'm using the S3 with a new S8 phone but I've had the phone for over a month now and this issue just started.

The phone is a tmo LTE model and the phone is from tmobile.

Have you updated the app?

Not sure what's happening with my S3 Frontier, but after some pretty good battery life, it's lucky to make it 12 hours now. There are no added apps or watch faces. If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate it.

I gave it the night off. Had it completely powered down while it charged. We'll see if that helps. It's odd the battery usage percents don't add up to 100.

Mine don't total 100 either although I haven't checked lately. They used to and it was much better... Then something changed and my battery life suffered greatly for no reason and my totals were off. Now my battery is back to normal.. No idea what happened. You can charge with it on, just be sure to reboot.

Edit: just checked and total is 105%. So it's still off but my battery usage had settled down, at 39% now after 14 hours (non LTE with everything else on including AOD).

Mine is back on track today. Night off seems to have helped. I'm sure a couple minutes before rebooting it would have been the same.

Have had drastic batter drain myself over the last 3 days. Have turned off and restarted multiple times and changed up 3 different watch faces (all stock Samsung faces, not 3rd party). This morning was crazy took it off the charger at 6:20 am and by 7:45 am it was at 80%. Not to mention I wasn't even wearing it...just had it on the counter with screen off. Time to try a factory reset?

I'm wondering if the HR sensor is working harder to find your pulse when it's off your wrist, causing a faster battery decline. Maybe turn it off for more than a minute? Have you checked to make sure everything is updated? If that all fails, a factory reset is easy to manage.
