Hello all, I am new here and just purchased a HTC Desire HD from Telus. I had a Bold 9700 and was just getting sick of BB's lagging software and hardware. OS 6.0 tied me over, but it is still very flawed and the UI is still ugly. I thought about buying the Torch, but realized it was outdated the minute it was released. Crappy, low res, yellow tinged screen just wont do it for me. I love BBM and will miss it, but I am happy to hear that it is rumoured to come to Adroid devices!
Anyway, I have played with a Galaxy S and Desire, and really love the exceptional hardware and software Android and its devices have to offer. I didn't want to buy something off ebay, so I had to buy it from my dealer (Telus). I have noticed that android devices go under different names depending on whether you are international, or inside the US. For example, Canada lacks the devices I wanted and the ones that seem to get the most buzz (Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, HTC EVO, Thunderbolt, etc.), but then I realized that Canada does have similar devices, but most dealers here sell the international versions! (which I find weird). Telus has the Motorola Milestone, which is exactly the same as the Droid sold in american dealers. The Desire can be considered the international version of the Nexus One, etc.
The Desire HD was just released from Telus not too long ago, and it caught my eye. So, I bought it and couldn't be happier. Everything about it, just blows a BB out of the water and I was sick of waiting for a QNX powered- Storm 3 like BB. The HD looks nearly identical to the Thunderbolt (minus the front facing camera) and has the same Scoirpion chipset. I love the large, high res screen and signifigantly better camera/HD recording. That being said, it is quite a complex device, and was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions for essential apps for android devices?
