New phone status icon, only recently noticed it.

My girlfriend and I both bought an S10 last year from the same place but we're on different phone networks but same wifi network.

Some time in the last couple of weeks (not sure exactly when) I started seeing a new 3rd phone/network icon up top. Hers doesn't have it. Anyone know what it is? It's not bothering me, but it's weird when something unexpected happens.

It's the one in the middle with the handset icon and #1 next to it.



edit: Started to have my doubts and wondered whether it was actually always there, but found this screenshot I'd made at the start of June:

Well, I can't find a setting along the lines of "Enable WiFi calling" but if I search for "calling" in the settings, I do find this (which makes it look like an installed app that I got from the play store but it doesn't appear in the list of 'my apps' in play store). Bit confused. I might well have enabled/installed this some time in the last 2 months but have forgotten. I'm not in a hurry to delete or disable it. Like I said, it's not bothering me, just intrigued.

Is wifi calling considered a good thing when possible? I imagine, but don't know, that it uses wifi to achieve the call when it's available to avoid using the mobile network. I tried "force stop"ping it (to see if the icon disappeared) but it didn't have any effect.

See my previous post. Open the quick settings panel and look for the WiFi calling toggle.

Just a short story. I'm a judicial commissioner and one night they tried calling me in. Couldn't because the thug took out internet between town and my house with his car. Now they know to text me if I don't answer. LOL.

I've disabled wi-fi calling. For some reason, calls get dropped when enabled.
