I will be purchasing a Pixel 10 Pro XL in the next week or so. I’m coming from a Pixel 5a so I’m really excited about the upgrade. However, the process of setting up the new phone has created some questions for me.
Should I do a complete transfer of my 5a to my 10 Pro XL: data, settings, apps, etc.?
Or should I do a clean install, basically starting from scratch so I have a lightweight install with just the bare necessities and then build on it as I find the need to add stuff?
Or is a customized install the way to go?
I know how to do the transfer process as I just went through it with my wife’s 9a two weeks ago. Obviously, I wouldn’t bring over “dead” apps that I no longer use. I’ll for sure change my wallpaper and home screen setup. I use custom ringtones and custom message alerts but I think I want to change them so I might not want to bring them over (I’m not even sure if I can omit these settings from coming over or not.) I might want to change my Do Not Disturb settings, my battery settings, lock screen settings, some widgets, etc. etc.
The sheer number of new settings on the 10 Pro XL means I’ll be fiddling with settings for a while so I’m leaning toward a clean install. Or maybe a customized install with just the things I know I want to bring over?
I figure most of the regulars here go through this process annually (or more often) whereas I do it every four to five years. Any insight is appreciated.
