New Pixel 3 - Questions about various functions

Status bar

I'm having difficulty with my notifications. My old Samsung used to place an icon in the status bar so I can see when I received a new notification. How do I make this happen? Thanks

Re: Status bar

Nearly all apps do exactly that - place their own icon in the status bar to indicate one or more active notifications.

To fine tune, go to Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Advanced -> Notifications to check general notification settings, or tap an app to view app-specific notifications.

This all assumes you are using the stock launcher...

Re: Status bar

Did your old Samsung have Android 9 (Pie)? I thought not.
The Android 9 notification system is different from Oreo (or perhaps your phone had Nougat?) so the behavior is slightly different from what you've grown used to.
If you could provide a specific example of what your Samsung device did in a given circumstance (a screenshot would be nice) and then show what your Pixel device is doing perhaps someone could suggest a way to change settings, or a 3rd party application, to get you what you're looking for.

I do have to say that these endless inane questions are getting pretty tiresome - perhaps you should try READING more about the device and watching videos to learn about it rather than simply trying to bolster your post count.

Re: Status bar

Do you have a bunch of other notification icons in the status bar? If so, then the new notifications are probably being overflowed, as shown by the rightmost little dot. If you swipe down the notification panel, you'll probably see it there. This was necessary because of the notch (groan), since if the notifications icons were allowed to extend into the middle of the status bar, people with a notch wouldn't see them.

But, then what?

Since nearly every question has been asked answered numerous times already, these forums (and thousands of others covering hundreds of subjects) would dry up completely, becoming nothing more than knowledge bases with nearly zero new activity.

Be careful what you wish for. :)

Lol! I think there's enough of us to keep the forum alive without having to worry about random one off posts. IMANUT46 has a bad habit of splintering posts and running parallels.

Re: Status bar

My posts are there because I wasn't trying to irritate you folks, but I just couldn't find the answer. This forum has been a great help to me in the past. Through this process I have been able to solve many problems. The answer to my question was solved after following advice from you folks. Thanks again.

The arrival time box at the bottom of the screen is too small. The fonts need to be enlarged

Re: Google Maps

I did through feedback. As usual, they didn't respond. Just thought someone out there might knew of a fix.

I doubt they will change it based on your feedback and they don't respond to every piece of feedback. It's just not practical.

Wake from sleep

When timeout happens, while not charging, does not show the screen saver. Why not ?

Re: Wake from sleep

Settings -> Display -> Advanced -> Ambient display -> Always on.

Is that what you are looking for?

I changed my settings I'll check it out later.
Thanks. Follow up. Did not work.

Perhaps it's because 'while NOT charging' is not an option?

Re: Wake from sleep

What exactly are you looking for when you say "screen saver"?

He's looking for the feature found at Settings -> Display -> Advanced -> Screen saver
It can be set to: Clock, Colors or Photos
Edit: Clock and Colors seem to work fine; Photos, not so much.
And pressing the gear icon to the right of 'Current screen saver' causes the Settings app to crash 100% of the time. YMMV.

Re: Wake from sleep

When the screen times out, the only time the clock Screensaver of the clock is when the phone is charging. If it's just sitting on the desk or your hand, I have to wake it up by hitting the volume button.
