New radio

Holding Volume Up + Power button will bring it out of that mode and back to a menu.

Thanks. I was able to update my radio, root and install Skyrider 2.5.2. Now I'm busy reloading my apps. I guess I'll have to look into a back up app so I don't have to do all this again if I have to wipe my phone.

A few quick questions:

Can I now remove the two zip files I have on my SD card (renamed update.zip for the Radio update and the SkyRaider.zip file for ROM)?

Does this ROM verision include the updated tethering file?

And what should I do when the OTA Froyo 2.2 update is pushed out by VZW what do I do, decline it?

This is my first experience with an andriod phone so this is all new to me.

Thanks for all the help.

thanks for everyones help...I have 2.15!!!

What is the benefit for going to 2.15 radio? Just curious since I just rooted and loaded SkyRaider 2.5.2 last night not sure if I should update my radio from 2.05 to 2.15.

I'm not sure but I've read in other forums that it gives better call quality, but that you need to have done unrevoked forever in order to use 2.15. I'm using skyraider 2.5.2 with the 2.05 radio without any complaints.

From what I've experienced nothing. Call quality is the same I do have about a 10dbm difference to the better (-86 to -74) at work. Network speeds are the same etc. It does give you two more encoding options with the camcorder allowing H.263 and H.264 encoding on top of Mpeg4 if that it something important to you.

Thanks for the info, I *might* do it because when I'm at home I'm running in the low to mid 90dbm for my signal and if I could get better that would be great.

Here's another question newbie question, since I rooted, custom ROM and updated the radio (2.05 and maybe to 2.15 at some point), can I still use *228 option 2 to upgrade my roaming towers?

The reason I ask is because now that I have done all that last night, I seem to be losing my mobile network quite frequently while I'm here at work and that hasn't happen before.

Yes *228 still works and won't affect anything but your prl listings. Totally safe to do. Also you may want to try *22899 and let it get all fresh again.

Do you need to have radio 2.15 in order to have the camcorder work? Or will 2.05 still allow the camcorder to work? I'm nervous about going with unrevoke forever in case I ever have to take my phone into verizon for replacement...

2.05 is fine. There are some sporadic complaints of poor 3G service with the 2.15. I have not experienced any of the complaints.

No you can delete the file as it has been copied to the right spot on your system ROM.

another question...since i habe flashed the new radio do i need to keep the file on my sd card?

No you can delete the file as it has been copied to the right spot on your system ROM.

As a matter of fact, as the instructions state, you SHOULD delete it, to keep you from accidently flashing it a second time and potentially bricking your phone.

Hey All,

I'm looking to upgrade my radio to 2.15 so that I can get the skyraider 2.5.2 vanilla ROM going on my dinc. Its also worth mentioning at this point that I'm a noob and have been reading/searching on tons of forums for the best way to do this and have come up with a few questions that I feel like I neeed answers to before moving forward. A few sites indicated that reverting/getting rid of root would not be necessary for upgrading the radio as long as unrevoked forever is used to turn S-off. I have now done this. Bootloader screen confirms that I have S-off. Here's where the questions come in:

1. Can someone tell me in noob-friendly terms exactly how to upgrade the radio after you are rooted and have s-off?

2. Alot of sites have mentioned needing the microSD to be in FAT32 format. Is the 2gb card (which I am currently using) that came from Verizon in FAT32 format? Some people have said that it would be since that is the format that works best with out phones, but I just want to make sure.

Thanks in advance for the help. I <3 the forums, devs, and people who help us make our phones awesome!

You can flash it again once you have rebooted the phone. Where in the 'instructions' does it state that?? In fact in the release thread for the 2.15 radio there are no instructions, just a simple download link.

Pretty simple:
1. Place the .zip on the SD card.
2. Reboot your phone into hboot. (volume down + power)
3. Select recovery on the menu.
4. Select install zip from sdcard.
5. Select the radio zip.
6. Select yes.
7. The phone now does it's thing.
8. Now it reboots.
9. Now you have a new radio.
10. Be happy!

First of all, thanks so much! However, I did all of that and my radio still says 1.x after reboot. To elaborate: My astro file manager confirms that I have PB31IMG on the root of my SD card. After I selected install zip from sd card in recovery, I hit select zip from sdcard, scrolled down to PB31IMG, selected it, then selected yes. The phone did something very briefly (about 1 second of running some sort of script with no image in the background) then I was back at the main recovery menu where I selected reboot. As I said, after rebooting I stilll have radio 1.x.

Any idea where I went wrong?

The PB31IMG file just flashes your phone back to factory. The dinc_ota.zip contains the radio.

I have a question. I am having a problem installing the dinc_ota.zip file. I first did the PB31IMG file to reset my phone back to factory settings. Now when I try to install the dinc_ota.zip I do all the steps and get into the bootloader and select recovery. Then the while HTC screen pops up and then I get a red triangle with a red exclamation point. So I have to pull my battery. I cant get it to install the new radio. I can never get it to boot into recovery. I got the files from the devs site and its named update.zip on my root of my sd card. Any help please?

That is recovery. Hit volume up + power on the black screen with the triangle. Select install update.zip. Remember to rename dinc_update.zip to update.zip. This is explicitly stated in the directions.
