New Shield Tablet owner with some issues

I just got my tablet on Friday and I've been playing around with it.

I immediately upgraded my tablet to the newest OTA update and did a factory reset. I got myself a Samsung Evo 64GB SD Card that's formatted to NTFS with the card renamed, I was able to create folder and writing to the disk with no problem.

Biggest annoyance I've been running into is the sensitivity of the touch screen. When I'm trying to type something, it would register a touch when I'm barely touching the screen and when I touch the screen like I would with a regular device, it would register again. I think it some something to do with how the tablet interacts with the Direct Stylus but I don't have the stylus out.

I also noticed some strange artifact effects when the keyboard is out, the items in the background would sometimes be flashing on the screen, this is the only device i've had that had this happen before.

One more annoying problem would be that the system would freeze at time and all touches would stop registering, i've set the power management to max or optimized and seems to have no effect.

And lastly of course is the battery drain problem, i will have to observe it more but last I checked, I've rebooted, had it fully charged and left it unplugged and the battery drained to 80% in about 2 hours of just sitting there not doing anything. I looked in battery status and it only show the drain of 20% without showing any apps of actually draining the battery. I turned off all google location and wifi services now and hoping this will resolve the problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I'd suggest giving it a few more days to let the device settle in. You may still be updating apps and services in the background, so that could be consuming some battery.

Also, could you post a screen shot of the battery stats page after a full charge and once it gets to about 50% or so?

Just to update my own post, but I did a reboot yesterday, did a screen calibration, and turned off all the google location services, the wifi searching and had the wifi turn off when sleep.

Played games, browse the web and what not off and on for about 3-4 hours with a lot of downloading, it was down to about 64% when I went to bed, and wake up this morning to about 56%. No more bad drain. I left it on before I went to work and hopefully when I get home, the system will still be on.

But if anything, i suspect the google services being the bigger battery drainer. We'll see.

Didn't notice any keyboard issues after I rebooted but we'll see if it comes back.

I had issues with the sensitivity also but a factory reset fixed that. Since you already did one, I'm not sure what to say.

I have the LTE model and battery stand by is generally good. BUT, to achieve this I removed the sim card (I'm obviously not using that feature currently) and have airplane mode permanently set to on with wifi also turned on. Also, turning on priority mode in lollipop was causing battery drain so I no longer use it. Silencing via a long press of the power button does not have an issue. Finally, stand by battery stability does consistently erode after a few days in my experience. In other words it needs a restart once or twice a week.

My biggest issue has been poor Chrome performance (laggy, slow at times). It was bad enough that I decided to try Firefox, which seems to work like a browser should on this tablet.

Good suggestions guys. I hate doing the dreaded factory reset myself but sometimes its a necessary evil with an OS update.

The flashing background on the keyboard. I've experienced this myself when using Swift Key. I thought maybe it was something limited to Swift Key but it appears maybe not?

The battery drain issue, that comes and goes. If the OEM's don't handle it, I'm guessing then Google will address it in their next update which will filter down to everyone else.
