Always on Display (AOD) draws a surprising amount of battery

Taking a look at what's contributing to battery usage I've found that the AOD accounts for between 4.5% - 5% of battery drain.
So I found this setting that doesn't really affect its functionality and still limits battery drain.
Previously I had it set to "always on," which I believe is the default setting.

Yeah it's always drained battery around there, I have mine set to schedule and that helps also

Mine coincides with my DND schedule. If my screen is on, I'm gonna look at it.

I have mine set to turn on with new notifications since that is what I use the AOD for the most anyway. So nice to have options!

I turned it on to automatic and noticed my battery dropping. Turned it back to Tap.

I just looked at mine it's on Auto!

kinda the same with having every app on the phone provide every update notification continuously!!
