New Swype beta 3.0 out!

Bummer, I didn't even get a chance to see it. I've rebooted twice & still get constant/frequent FC's with Swype set as the current "Input Method". I've changed the active KB to SwiftKey X Beta (nice improvement from these folks too!) and the Swype FC's have stopped. I'll try it again when a newer beta is announced.

Did you uninstall the original Swype prior to the beta installation? Original Swype MUST be removed prior to beta installation.

Yes, I uninstalled it with Titanium Backup Pro. There was no Swype Installer, but I removed Swype 2.6.48.12353. I don't think I rebooted between uninstalling the old and installing the beta. Maybe that would make a difference? I would have to try that later if the mood strikes.

I selected "Swype Beta Full", but I'm guessing the English/Spanish would be smaller... Without explanation I wasn't sure, now I think I have the super fat version with all available languages. Reborn ROM gives me a lot more storage than stock, but I hate to waste. Oops, I see I just got the"Low on space" notification... Damn!

The old version would throw up a Spanish word occasionally that I didn't want, but I couldn't delete it since it was in the built in dictionary. I hope they allow for internal word deletes in this version.

Yeah I went with the English/Spanish version myself because i switched to Shell ROM to save battery life and it has less memory available. Works fine :)

Hrmmm...reboot shouldn't be the issue because i didn't reboot in between installs either. I will say that Swype was the only keyboard I had installed other than android default but I can't see your Swift causing FC's either.

Don't worry anyway....its not like you're missing out on anything because its basically the exact same. It seems slightly better but not enough to shout that the world needs to update. Its kinda like ice cream w/ sprinkles on top....the ice cream is delicious by itself but the sprinkles add that extra texture and flavor that kicks it up a notch :)

"Worry"? I'm not worried, I just have to have the latest! I got it now. I uninstalled Swype again - not the installer. This time I rebooted and ran the installer, picked English/Spanish, followed prompts and I'm up & running 3.5x just fine. I like the improvements and think they're worth that aggravating hour :)

I was quite pleased with the new SwiftKey X Beta when I installed it this morning, but I think I'm going back to Swype for a bit. The predictions are working better for me.

Oh, the Full version was 9.6MB on the phone and the English/Spanish is 4.19MB. Much better!

im finding 3.0 to be wayyy more accurate then any other version of swype!! this is the best keyboard hands down

Finally, a great reason to root!

WOW....I'm going to pretend I never read that lol. Out of all the reasons to root, using swype beta doesn't even land on the chart.

People are making it seem like the beta is this amazingly incredible thing that you can't live without. Its the exact same as it has always been with slightly better word prediction....I know some people say it seems more accurate however I never had an issue with accuracy before so it seems the same to me.

So I installed it and it worked until I rebooted my phone then it kept force closing so I uninstalled it reinstalled it and now it works again anyone else have this happen or know if I can back it up with titanium so I can restore my settings at least

update - Sensation!

I got the new beta on my HTC Sensation. It's even better than the HTC Trace.

I <3 Swype.

For some reason I am unable to uninstall the Swype that I already have. I try to do it through Titanium and it tells me that my phone will reboot twice.

My phone starts to reboot and then in recovery a screen comes up with the little android dude and an exclamation point (inside a triangle I believe). I then have to hit the home button to get the custom recovery menu.

Am I doing it wrong? This is my first time uninstalling a system app.

I was able to uninstall mine through settings/applications without any issues.

Quick question.

I am not rooted. Can I use Titanium to uninstall the preinstalled version from my Droid X and then install Swype Beta 3.0?

Thanks in advance.

Titanium is a root app; it will not work if you are not rooted.
