Hello fellow TB users. Just picked up a TB yesterday after having been through 5 DroidX's in less than 4 weeks. Damn gingerbread update. Anyway though, so far I have no complaints about this phone except the battery but I knew about that going into this. What I am having issues with is the system update. I do not know if I am on MR1 or MR2 and whenever I go to check for updates, the window pops up saying its checking and about 10 seconds later it just goes away. I havent had any issues in the 28 hours of having the phone, but would just like an OEM way of turning off the 4G radio when I know I wont be using a lot of data. Now I know there are apps for that but does anyone have any reccomandations?

Another thing is the music player. I noticed that most of my albums on my phone show album art but threre are a few that do not. Is there anyway from the phone that it can find the artwork and attach it to the album?

Thanks, and hope this journey is better than my last!

Go into the menu at the bottom is "About Phone" and you can look up your software information. Let us know what software version you have. If you have MR2 there is a built in toggle to turn of 4G. That is in the menu and network settings. If you are stuck on MR1 at the moment you can download an app called LTE On/Off that works really well for toggling 3G/4G. You should get the latest update pushed to you at some point if you don't have it already.

Hey and welcome to the wonderful world of the HTC Thunderbolt... LOL jk but 2 answer your question there is a way to toggle LTE with 3G on the settings go to wireless and networks (now I'm not sure if its the same way on stock sine I'm running DAS BAMF with sense 3.0) then will be an option for preferred network and instead of having LTE + CDMA, select CDMA only that way it phone will be on 3G only...somebody correct me if my steps are wrong plz but its somewhere between the lines. And regarding the music player I wouldn't be sure but usually legit music files like from itunes come with artwork but if u downloaded from a p2p or got it from a cd usually won't have it and don't think u can add the artwork. Hope I helped :)

Menu | Settings | About | Software | Build number:

1.13.?.?.= MR1
1.70.605,0=MR2

MR2 has the radio toggle built in: Menu | Settings | Wireless and Networks | Mobile Network(s) | Network Mode. CDMA Only is 4G off, LTE/CDMA is 4G on.

To determine your radio:

Menu --> Settings --> About Phone --> Software Information and look for "Baseband Version." I believe 1.16.00.0223 is the MR1 and the 1.39.00.0508w is the MR2 radio, but someone here may be able to confirm that (edit: I am actually like 10% confident in these version numbers - it's been one of those days)

For your 4G, if you don't already have a toggle, an app I used prior to the update was LTE On/Off and it did a good job of toggling 4G on and off.

As for your album art, I have the same issue but never looked into it ... I always just updated it in iTunes.

If it is still on the original software, 1.12.605.6 will be the build number. I never got MR1 and still don't have MR2.

If it will not properly update, turn the phone off and pull the battery and slide out the SIM tray. Leave it out for 3 minutes, then slide the SIM tray in and replace the battery. Make sure when you fasten the battery cover, make sure it is securely in place with no gaps around the edges. Then try your software update again.

Aside, in the mean time, use the LTE On/Off app and only use either the "LTE/EVDO + CDMA Auto" (default) or the "CDMA Auto (PRL)" settings.

Otherwise, welcome to the club!

I have the MR2 update, and my Baseband version is listed as 1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69.0625r. The TBolt has been working great for me since the MR2 update, especially after I pulled the battery, the SIM card, and the micro SD memory card for awhile and then reinstalled all of them and rebooted the phone.

The TBolt is a great phone now, and it will be even better once its GB update is finalized (hopefully very soon) and Skype Video is able to access the front facing camera (requires GB). Welcome on board. :p

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm not all too concerned about updating to MR2 since I don't have any problems with the phone (yet). Was mainly just checking to see if I had it or not and why my phone doesn't like to check for updates. As for the music, about 90% of it is ripped from my collection and the rest is ripped from friends. I use either Zune or Windows Media Player to rip, and it's just hit or miss if it add the artwork to the rip or not. But it's not a deal breaker, since the screen is off while music is playing anyways.

I just ordered the HTC extended battery and mobi case from the AC store, should arrive Monday evening, so can't wait to not have to have a charger attached to my hip too :-P.
