How do I clear messags off the lower 1/4 of the watch face?

It currently says 'System Update Do...'

And I cant make it go away.

What am I missing?

Swipe down from the middle of the screen and it will go away. If you want to see more of the message before you dismiss it, swipe up from the bottom.

The phone..wouldnt do that.

Was locked, but after a hard reboot it said "update me" and all was well after that.

But swiping wouldnt do anything in the state it was in.
