New to Android... Few questions

I'm new to android, so please to be too harsh... I'm one of you now! But I do have a few questions. One of the things I liked about the iphone was that I could hit the home button twice to pull up favorite call lists. Is there an easy way to create/move to favorite call lists?

Also, how do you natively check what apps are running and turn them off if needed? I think I found the one for processes, and just wanted to know if one existed just for apps?

HTC has the "People" widget, where you select a gmail group (distribution list) to create a photo dialer widget. That might be something worth trying. Make sure you are in on the google gmail goodness however. I hate that they have so much, but it all works well together.

As far as running apps, this is an Android hot topic all together. Do you want to use a task killer or have it do its own. Check out the multiple threads here and on other Android phones about task killers. I don't want to beat that one too bad.

1) Couple of different options ..
a) put people into groups. click the people icon, edit a person and assign them a group. Now when you open the people icon slide the slider on the bottom of the screen to groups (second icon on bottom) select the group you want and voila, all your fav's in one place.
b) create a folder on your desktop. Long press an empty space and select Folder > New Folder. Now create direct dial shortcuts, long press empty space > shortcut > direct dial > select the person you want. Now that you have a direct dial shortcut to a person on your desktop, drag and drop it into the empty folder you created. Repeat direct dial shortcuts until all your favs are in folder and voila, all your fav's in one place.

2)You can download advanced taskkiller from the market BUT being that you are new ... you will be posting shortly about something not working because you will no doubt kill something that shouldnt be killed. Before you make any decisions ....

long pressing the home button brings up a list of the 6 most recently used apps which is more useful than recent calls but thats my opinion =P

Long pressing on the home button in any app will bring up a pop up menu that lists your six most recently used apps. From Froyo, whenever the Evo gets it, that will be a list of eight apps. Anything other than that, you'll have to launch the app yourself from the launcher or the app drawer. But if it is still in the memory, the apps will pick up from where you left them. On what stays in the memory and for how long, you can read in the task killer article linked a few posts back.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to create a folder with direct dials in it. Seems to be the easiest (fewest clicks) to get to who I want to call.

I'll skip on ATK and just watch my processes to make sure that things get turned off. I especially have to watch this with all the time i'm spending on the phone. *Better battery life than I thought too!*
