New to Android. What app is best to control my laptop?

Really surprised noone has mentioned wyse pocket cloud free. You have to be on the same network as your PC or set up port forwarding or whatever to make your PC public facing, but it's a fantastic remote control app. I really like the mouse on it.

I don't think it has remote wake-up capability though. I don't need that so I haven't checked.

for computers with plenty of bandwidth - phonemypc beats logmein,- process/program viewer/killer, execute actions (like running a batch file or executing a program), view webcam, $15
for computers with low bandwidth - splashtop - a lot fewer options, just basic remote control - $10
for computers that you need to buddy help, without a prior install - teamviewer would rock - free
for computers you need to monitor - pc monitor free for first 3

+1 for PhoneMyPC - been using it from the very beginning on three different Samsung phones - Moment - Epic - GS3 - very speedy on all

I use Splashtop. I can access my desktop from both my Android phone and my iPad.

Here is my two suggestions. For controlling your laptop like you would a TV I suggest Unified Remote. it is a free app however requires you to install software on the computer before it will work. I have been using it for a while to control my laptop when using it to stream movies to my TV. Although like it has been said it will not wake your computer. If you want to control your computer by logging into to it I would suggest 2x Client. it is a RDP, free and works with the built in RDP for both Windows and Linux. This will wake your computer since you are logging into it remotely.
