New to Android

Hello Everyone!

So, I am new to the whole Android Market. I recently purchased a Motorola Triumph and absolutely love it! However, I have been searching around the web trying to find out more information about my phone and how the Android Market works...

A few questions I have:

What is "root"???

Please use simple terms I can understand, if you are willing to help, I don't know anything about computers/software, etc.

I basically have the understanding that by rooting your phone you are able to customize it more... lol, that is ALL I understand of the term "root"!

I would greatly appreciate any input.

In simple terms "rooting" is getting into the core of a device past the locks that are to keep users out. For that reason it breaks your warranty. It also means that you never want to do a regular upgrade when you get a notification.

But the fun thing with Android is that it is already so wide-open that you can change almost anything any way you want without rooting.

With your new phone...Would you be in heaven spending all weekend trying to get Facebook to work? Or would that be the weekend from hell?
