New to Android

could you please post a link to your recovery and boot img and let us know which versions of everything you pulled them from

breaks down the file into parts?

It's one of the steps in uncompressing .kdz files.
  1. You use LG Utils 0.4.2 to convert the .kdz file into a .cab file
  2. Decompress the .cab file using your favorite program (WinRAR, WinZip, etc.), which will give you a .dz file.
  3. Use DzDecryptor v1.0b to decompress the .dz file into it's component parts.

These are the files ultimately contained within V10E_00.kdz:
Code:
amss.mbn
amsshd.mbn
appsboot.mbn
appsboothd.mbn
boot.img
oemsbl.mbn
oemsblhd.mbn
partition.mbn
qcsbl.mbn
qcsblhd_cfgdata.mbn
recovery.img
splash.img
system.mbn

I remember reading someone saying that they upgraded using the official update tool (updating their baseband, too), and their unlocked phone became SIM-locked again. Then they reflashed, and the phone became unlocked again. Have you heard of such a thing? Is that possible?

I purchased my phone unlocked, so I don't have the unlock code.

if upgrading officially locked it, i dont see how flashing an aftermarket rom would have the ability to undo it.
then again i dont know how its all tied in there.

So what are the down sides to upgrading to 2.3.4? I know the baseband gets upgraded, which makes other ROM flashes trickier (at least as I understand it). Anything else? Is it worth it to upgrade?
The biggest downside I've found is one of the "improvements" made in 2.3.4. The major one that bothers me is that apps are no longer able to take calls. Why is this important? Well, say you want to set up Tasker as a call blocker. Most profiles use the "Take Call" action to do that. "Take Call" doesn't work once you upgrade. I didn't learn that until I'd purchased Tasker to replace my call blocker, which quit working after my upgrade. I also believe that's why that call-blocking app quit working after I upgraded; it was probably relying on that same functionality to immediately intercept the call and kill it. It just causes com.android.phone to FC now. It's another app I paid for, and one that I absolutely loved. If I had known about that before I upgraded, I wouldn't have done it. Not in a million years. From my experience, there's so little improvement for general usage, that losing functionality I really, really depended on is a killer. I'm still furious about it and wish I could go back to Froyo.
