New to Droid, question about a setting I can't find

I'm coming from a Pre which has that nice little switch to go from audio to vibrate..quick and easy.

I don't see a "vibrate all" option when holding the power button. I was wondering if there's an easy way to set the home sound slider (left unlock, right sound on/off) to swipe to vibrate all??

Usually when I want to vibrate all it's something I need to do rather quickly. I can't seem to find a way to do this at all none-the-less do it from the lock screen.

Any suggestions?

In froyo, when holding the power button, & select sound off will make it vibe, if u have vibrate enabled for each communication app, or u can run the volume rocker on the side all the way down & it will stop at vibe... what is actually more annoying is that there is not a silence all/no vibe option, because what if u don't want it to vibe and silence the alarm/media volume cuz they operate independently of the main volume...

Easiest thing to do is download an app like quick profiles. Create a normal profile with ring/vibrate and then create one with just vibrate. You can adjust the sounds independently in each profile. I have short cuts to a normal profile and then one to a night profile where everything is silent except for the alarm and ringer.

I also use Quick Profiles. I have Night, Normal, Vibe, and Silent profiles defined. Night allows only the phone ringtone because I don't use alarms.

if you decide to root your phone to froyo, some builds have a lock screen set up where the left slide unlocks and the right slide switches you to either sound or vibrate. Sounds like what you're looking for

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give quick profiles a try - I'm not going to root at this point, just going to wait for the official release. I gotta say, considering the popularity of android and the multitude of devices I don't understand why a quick vibe setting isn't built in yet..

The "I don't get why it's not built in yet" mindset seems really prevalent with new Android users. Part of the point of Android is that it's extensible.

Everyone has this-or-that feature that they think should be stock -- particularly if they're used to the way something was specifically done on their former platform.

I get your point, however I don't agree. That's like saying someone shouldn't expect a built in messaging app. There are certain things that should be built in for ease of use and convenience.... I see no reason for your comment tbh. If there is a "silence all" option, theres really no reason to not have a vibe all option. I didn't post a complaint about a hardware switch, I was looking for a solution.....

Also, you made the assumption that I was new to android. I said I was new to the Droid. Pay attention to what you read before you post......

The easiest easy way to quickly and easily go from vibrate to audio and back and forth.....

The volume rocker on the side (upper right) down all the way is silent, one click up is vibrate.

Gees, everyone was helpful. But seriously.... Root, wait for froyo, download app, wow.. Don't overthink it, just turn the volume down.

Android is missing a bunch of little features to make life easier but for the most part "There's an app for that"

Thanks for the easy tip, however this isn't an answer for me since it only vibrates the phone, not notifications.

People have been helpful and I've thanked them for that... no need to to get excited.

Anyway, the solution for me was what was mentioned before - use Quick Profile. It does the trick for the most part. What I'd REALLY like to see is an option to change what the sound slider does. IMO that's a very reasonable request.

I can vouch for QP which I have used for 6 months now.

Motorola Droid, right? Ummmm, not trying to be argumentative. But, adjusting the volume via the volume rocker bar DOES adjust phone calls AND notifications. NO THIRD PARTY APP IS NEEDED!

That's not in any way to detract from the quality and usefulness of the quick profiles app .... But, just a clarification to correct a misstatement.... No app is needed to accomplish what you want

Humor me.... From main screen, go to menu.. Settings.. Sound and display... while on that screen push the volume button up (some options are greyed out if volume is set to silent or vibrate)... Now, press the drop down arrow next to "ringer volume" .... see the box for "use incoming call volume for notifications"? Is that checked? that might be the root off your issue.

Prometheus is correct. I have no problems setting my calls and alerts to vibrate with the rocker and have never used a third party app for this.
