hi guys, great forum,

i have a galaxy s5 neo which i got recently as my s4 upped and died on me, and its not great if i am honest, sound quality of calls is a bit poo and battery seems to of quickly deteriorated so i am now unsure if to go down the samsung road again.

i have read various reviews as we do, but my question is, is the s7 worth the upgrade in terms of battery life? and performance? does anybody have the uk version with the xenyos processor?

is there anyone who has access to both s7 and the edge to give me comparative info, as people have said on here reviewers have boxes to tick, i want everyday users like me who can say yea its good or no its pants.

i like the idea of the extra battery power but prefer the smaller form factor of the s7 so i wonder real world time do you get much extra time between charges on the edge as compared to the s7?

people have also talked about stutter and other issues so just looking for some feedback,

also does anyone use a 6s or plus and the s7 to tell me which they prefer?

thanks guys

andy

I live in Dubai and bought the Exynos version since that's what we get here, same as the UK.

I had a Galaxy S6 edge+ 64GB and sold it after 2 months due to an annoying bug where the phone seems to freeze for a while after it goes into sleep mode. Samsung issued a firmware update to fix it but it didn't help much so I got sick of this bug and sold it. Then comes the other problem of weak signal reception which I heard is a common thing in Samsung phones so I didn't want to get another Samsung phone for a while.

I then bought an iPhone 6S which was awesome, great battery life, but I hated the fact that I need to use iTunes to copy files/mp3s to/from the phone and got tired of this within 2 weeks then sold it.

Next, I got a Nexus 6P, amazing pure Android experience, very snappy, but it had the worst virtual keyboard in any phone I had before, I could never type so fluentls always making mistakes, especially that narrow spacebar key that I never seem to get right so sentences come out with no spacing between words. I tried SwiftKey but it was no better. Never buying a Huawei phone again! So I sold it and got a BlackBerry PRIV. all was great, loved the physical keyboard, but the battery life despite it sporting a 3410mAH battery was horrible, you could just hold the phone in your hand and watch the battery percentage drop very fast. Then came this fatal bug:

Contacts disappear a few minutes after I add them

That's a show stopper for me.

So I thought I have no choice but to give Samsung another chance and was contemplating between getting the S7 or the S7 edge, but then I remembered how I hated those big phones, so I went with the S7, even though it has a smaller 3000 mAH battery, bear in mind that it powers a smaller screen so it wouldn't be that bad.

After using it for 2 days I think it's the best phone I've ever owned, very decent battery life, by the end of the day I still have 50-60%, I am a moderate user. Thanks to Marshmallow's doze feature, the standby time is excellent, radio signal has been improved, there is 0 lag in the phone and no freezing bugs like with my previous S6 Edge+. Best of all is the size is just perfect, not too small and not too big, just good enough to watch videos when you need to and small enough to operate with one hand and easily put in your pocket.

I got it with the SPIGEN Thin Fit case and also ordered a SPIGEN Neo Hybrid Case which I should get soon.

I'm in the Uk and I went with the S7 edge coming from a S5. All I can say is it's fantastic. I got it mainly for the camera and the battery and neither is a disappointment.
I use an android wear watch which used to kill my S5 but the S7 gives me a day comfortably, if I don't have the watch on it last a couple of days, 17 hours and I've used 35% so far since last charge.

I use a spigen clear hybrid case and it makes the phone feel more secure in my hand without adding much bulk.

thanks guys for the helpful and complete replies. i was considering the 6s due to two samsuings with faults in quick succession. i am leaning more towards the s7 for its smaller form factor, and think it will feel nicer in the hand, but the extra battery capacity makes it less straight forward. snappy i hear you re the itunes tie in, it is a big decision as your stuck for 2 years in the uk hence ny questions

Everything I read and hear on You Tube says carriers outside the US have the best (bar none) chipset...the Exynos octa core. Lucky you! I had the S5 until two days ago. I was hesitant to buy the S7 due to all the negative issues I've been reading here. LOVE the camera! That's the real reason I wanted this phone. HATE the sound quality. No software/firmware updates can fix it. It's due to the IP water resistant rating. HATE that they got rid of AirView. Not a lot of people used it apparently but I did and I miss it. Don't like that it only came in shiny black or shiny gold for the US. An app I used multiple times a day isn't compatible with Marshmallow/Andriod 6. I do like the new UI and am still getting use to and discovering new features but if it wasn't for the upgraded camera, I would have probably stuck with my perfectly good S5. I'd totally skip right over the S6. That was a Samsung mistake <g>
