New to G3 - Where To Start?

Alright, so I've always used iPhone and I wanted to switch it up. I did 4 days of research deciding on the S5, Note 4, or G3...I chose to go with the G3.
I'm buying my G3 Wednesday. What are some really good settings within the phone to keep battery life high and what's unnecessary that comes with the phone? This is my first time experiencing Android OS.
What are some strong, but light cases?

Anything I should know when I get my phone? Some awesome apps to start with?

You made a good choice. Are you buying unlocked or on a contract...if the latter, which carrier? Also, which version...2/16 or 3/32?

I usually do Verizon, but will be doing AT&T this time around. It will be the 32GB model.

AT&T owners will no doubt have much to say about their G3 experience. I have no experience of iOS but I think I'm right in saying that in comparison you're in for an exciting ride.

Go home unbox and power on and be very pleasantly surprised...

Cases I wouldn't know as I never use them (a pet hate)

Battery life saving tips ERM root and greenify or uninstall bloat that may come with your device will be a good start.

Don't be alarmed at battery drain and charge at first like mine it took a few cycles to settle.

I know with iPhone, when you unbox it, you're supposed to immediately put it on the charger until it gets to 100%, then leave it on there for like an hour after or something. Same with Android phones, or no?

Eh, they do advise charging fully when you first get it. I didn't bother. But I am letting my battery drain entirely a few cycles before charging, i.e. not topping off until entirely drained. After only one draining I got a full 30 hours out of it.

Just got my T-Mobile version Saturday and enjoying it. Like the UI well enough so have left things as is. Haven't disabled any T-Mobile bloat yet. I I read here that disabling some LG apps like LG Health can help with battery.

Eh, they do advise charging fully when you first get it. I didn't bother. But I am letting my battery drain entirely a few cycles before charging, i.e. not topping off until entirely drained. After only one draining I got a full 30 hours out of it.

Yeah, apps like Health are what I'm referring to. To me, those are just unnecessary apps. So when I open the box, use it all day until it fully drains and dies, then recharge fully?

There are optimum ways of using your battery the aim of which is to prolong the lifespan of the battery (keep within the range of 40% to 80% charged, for example), but I don't bother and I guess that most users don't either. My own practice is to charge to 100% of an evening, using while charging....it will hit 100% before I'm done but I only unplug after I've finished using. With heavy use it might drop as low as 15% the next day but for me it will usually be higher than that when I come to recharge.
If you shorten the life of your battery with less than optimal use, you can always replace the battery as and when necessary.

Regarding apps, it may not be easy to remove the carrier ones, but AT&T users will know more about that than me....I'm UK unlocked.

I have never owned an iPhone, know next to nothing about them or the iOS. I'm guessing, from one or two things other members have said, that the phones and the operating system are more reliable, but that they don't allow you the same freedoms and accessibility as Android. If I'm right, I guess that would make me want to try Androids if I'd been an Apple user....also, the wider choice of device types running Android, especially in my case ones with very good cameras.

Question: How is the G3's camera? It seem like in most pics that people upload on here the edges on objects are like....edgy. They have sharpness or something on edges of things, while iPhone's is really smooth all-around, especially at night.

^^^The G3's camera I find to be very good. The effect you refer to may be due to the screen-sharpening used in the G3 rather than a characteristic of the camera. The 13mp images compare favourably to the 5mp oversampled images of my Nokia Lumia 1020, that Emperor of Camera Phones. You can't crop and retain quality as much as on the Lumia, but when you crop on the latter you're doing so from the 41mp image so it's hardly surprising. Sharpness is what I notice most in the G3's photos when not cropped, or only cropped a little. Some of that may be the screen.

As yet I haven't done much night photography with the G3 but some users report that the post-processing effects are painterly or impressionistic.

Camera is much better on G3. G3 is way faster and G3 battery lasts way longer. IPhone is simpler only advantage

Speaking of battery, can I buy a bigger battery besides the 3,000mAh stock one? And then can I buy a charger with more than the stock volts it comes with? So I'd have huge battery capacity and still be able to charge it quickly.

I would wait for some official batteries to come out but I think you'll be surprised by how long the battery lasts...
