Oh? I thought there were users that were able to get S-OFF after that first OTA... I haven't really been following the S-OFF thread after doing mine though, so perhaps something did change, but some posts still say that after the OTA they were able to run firewater's exploit to gain S-OFF.Just an update. So I did some research. It turns out that any random password consisting of upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols, once you get to 12 characters it's unrealistically hard with today's technology. At 16 characters it's just about unbreakable. So I lowered my password length to "just" 30 characters and all is well. Spent 2 hours putting the password back on all of my devices, but I guess it's for the better.. I won't have to go with an S5.
It does give me pause that a problem like this, on a stock build with no external apps installed yet would have a problem like that. Makes me wonder if I'm actually going to be happy with my purchase.
In any case, I've already installed Weaksauce and rooted my phone. Since I'm a "sucker" and bought the Verizon model I now have more research as apparently doing the whole unlocked bootloader(aka s-off?) isn't trivial. We'll see. I'm all about playing around now. And since I'm not completely thrilled with Sense I'm seriously considering going to a ROM that is more inline with the stock Android behavior.
I'll see all of you around the forums! Thanks for the help.
Edit: Just found out s-off isn't currently available for Verizon phones if you installed the OTA that came out April 18, 2014. Eh, not the end of the world I suppose.
Go for the HTC one m8 you wont regret it,HTC sense is so good I haven't bothered with rooting or anything like that

What's the point of a password being 50+ characters long?

the only HTC device i would consider is the new one, the Harman/Kardon one. The kicker for me is it is fro Sprint... Hmm I actually might consider dumping T-mobile for Sprint though since i just started with T-mobile a month ago will they pay it all off the installment plan?
Do you listen to a lot of HD music? Lossless or flac files? If not, you probably won't notice a difference in music quality

Yes when I use my own music.... Mixture of both... Also listen to google music all access
Still the software supposedly works with the compressed files

Well then you would be a perfect candidate for the HK edition m8. As much as I want one, I don't listen to a lot of lossless files. Plus I'm on AT&T and Sprint's coverage sucks in my area, there is no way I could switch to Sprint.
