I've been a long-time iPhone user and have been wanting to switch for a while since jail breaking has become increasingly difficult. I finally jumped ship and got the Moto x. Being a newbie, I was hoping to get some tips on apps to get to make this transition from iOS and iTunes smooth and what you guys think the must have apps for a new android user are. Appreciate any help

There is the Any.Do task and calendar apps which are awesome. For quick note taking you can get Google Keep or Microsoft One Note. Then there is Aviary for applying filters to photos.

Edit: all of the above are free in the Google Play store.

Welcome to Android world... if you want your music on Android use Google play music.

if you are rooted(seeing ur frustration about jail breaking iOS, I think you will soon root it). then use an app called Greenify..

Moto X's battery is awesome and with greenify its much more awesome

if you are interested in Launchers you can try Nova Launcher... its near stock experience

Forgot to mention for music management there is an app called DoubleTwist. Www.doubletwist.com[url] Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk

yes, but moto X launcher is missing some basic features (which is the same as Nexus 4, 7 and 10 launcher)

so i switch between nova and google launcher

I gave it a shot coming from the iphone 5s. It's a nice phone but I'm going to return it. My feeling is the iphone 5s is just a smoother experience. I also wasn't a fan of always tinkering to try to get the phone exactly how I wanted it. There seems to be a lot of duplicate functionality. For example two messaging and gallery apps. The integration is just not well thought out. If you love to tinker its a great phone. I just think the 5s is what works for me. I will say that I've been on the iphone since the beginning so I may not have given the moto x a fair shot. I also like how the mail client on the iphone works with my work exchange and personal accounts. I'm not a fan of having two clients one for gmail and one for exchange on the moto x.

It's called choice. You don't have to use both of the messaging or gallery apps. Set one as default and don't worry about the other.

Some people like being restricted in terms of what they're allowed to do, while others do not. The iPhone is easier if you don't want to take the time to do some thinking.

I agree in the fact that I can go to the play store and download another app to use as default but there never seems to be a single app that does it all. Motorola/google should load one app by default. If messaging and gallery are being phased out for the google + versions, that is what should come on the phone.

I just came over from iPhone as well. You need to be ready to change how you use your phone and be open minded. It is not going to work the way the iPhone did and I think trying to make it do so takes away from what Android can do. Android can do so much more than Apple but it is not as simple as Apple. I am so sold on Android I am now getting the Nexus 7 for Christmas.

Google+ - this backs up all your pictures and videos. By default all backup files are not shared on Google+. Also, unlike iCloud, if you delete from your phone it is not deleted from Google+ so you don’t have to worry about deleting pictures to save space.

Google Keep – this is a good alternative to Notes. It is simple and fast. I dried a few note apps but liked this one best.

Tasker – it just makes everything more fun

Pockercast – if you listen to Pocketcast this is my favorite.

Smart Audiobook player – my favorite for playing Audio books I have on file. If you have audible then you will still use that.

Other than that just look around and try to think of something you wish you could do with your phone then look on the internet to see if it is possible.

These are simple issues Google needs to iron out. I've read many users pain over not having simple functionality as this with android when iOS took care of it with ease.

I often wonder what the heck Google is doing with things such as two gallerys. They seem to work in phases and I'm sure gallery will he phased out soon.

These two articles are good explanations on what is 'Google' and what is AOSP
