On Thursday Sprint swapped out my defective EVO LTE for an S3 and it's been all downhill since.
My EVO would lockup when using the camera. The S3 misses calls/text/email multiple times a day.
On average I am getting 5hrs out of the S3 battery.
I would rather have a working phone with a non working camera then a non working phone.
I will be going back to Sprint tomorrow to see what they can do.

Is your s3 completely stock? What software have you installed? Have you done any configuration of the settings options? Have you looked at any of the threads dealing with battery life? The options you select can make a huge difference.

What you're experiencing is not typical nor normal. If you want help, we'll be happy to help you, but you're going to have to give us a little information to go on. If you just want to complain, that's fine, too. Just let us know so we don't waste our breath with answers you don't really want to hear.

Bone Stock. The only configuration of the settings I have done were ones Sprint walked me through over the phone.
And I forgot to mention the phone gets very hot.

Sounds like you got a defective phone. Have them swap it out. I came from an Evo 4g and Evo 3d, the GS3 is 200% better in all regards.

Yep, if it's bone stock and running that hot something's wrong. There are actually a couple of things that could be causing it that you could address, but if you just got it, and it's bad out of the box, you shouldn't have to.

3 days old. Hot on the first charge.

Anyway to get Sprint to not give a refurbished phone? I have a bad feeling I will be going through this a few times.

Are you going into a Sprint store? If so, I'd be adamant that it's only 3 days old and insist on a non-refurbished phone.

I agree, new in box is the way to go. Who knows what was wrong with this phone when it was returned, but obviously the "refurbishment" didn't work.

Did they hand you this phone at the store or was it shipped to you by Assurion? I guess I didn't think stores handed out refurbs.

This was with no use sitting in my pocket.

This phone gets warm when charging and under heavy data use or with the screen on for good periods of time.

Sent from my Sprint S3 using AC forums.

This was in store. Had to wait 3 days for it.

Free app in google play called gsam battery monitor. It will tell you exactly what the temp of the battery is, as well as a detailed account of specifically what is using up the power. When on the charger I usually get right around 100 degrees which is pretty warm.
Something else real easy to try. I've had a lot of the same symptoms you described, all caused by corrupt files on my sd card. Try turning the phone off and remove the card. Then turn it on and see if the problems are still there.

I highly agree. GSAM is an awesome battery Monitor. It will also tell you wake lock information.

My GS3 gets hot, but I use a lot of data...

My Attic did too, lol...

Im always in it...

Never hot when not in use... But, im usually sleeping then, so I can't say for sure... lol

Yup and it'll also show if he's got the media bug which could cause both the high temp and quick battery drain.

Just got back from Sprint where they ran a diagnostic and they said nothing was wrong and it must be Pandora that is killing the battery.
When I asked the Rocket Scientist what would that have to do about calls/text and internet not working and telling him I only just installed Pandora and never ran it he just came back with some smart ass remark. When telling him I had all the same apps plus on my EVO LTE and would get at least 16 hours with heavy use he just came back with another smart ass remark. Took everything in my body to not drag him over the counter! Trying GSAM now and calling Sprint later.

Just got back from Sprint yet again. Brought the phone back to them after it locked up on me again. Brought it back to the Tech who said there was nothing wrong with it and asked him to make a call. When he couldn't he tried a factory reset on a 4 day old phone. Let's see what happens now!

I would not waste my time with sprint.....!! If it's a new phone Samsung has a one year warranty on it. My wife and I got new GS3 back in December 2012, and I went to Samsung site and registered both phones. Around the second week of Feb 2013 her phone died. It would not power up, charge, or nothing, no signs of life what so ever. I contacted Samsung and got an RMA to return the phone to them for repair. They replaced the main board in the phone and she had her phone back on less than 2 weeks. Didn't cost me a cent. Best experience I have ever had. We didn't want a refurb either, which is what would have happen if I had gone to sprint, So if I were you I would register the phone on Samsung's site, then send it to them and let them fix it.

Again, best thing I could have done, my wife is happy and still has a new phone......
