New to Samsung/Android need help with Syncing Google contact lists

Here is the situation-

My offfice just bought 40+ S3-upgraded from dumbphones.

These phones are passed from person to person whoever is working that particular position/shift. They are "generic" in that they are not assigned to any one individual.

Opened a single gmail account, entered contacts and synched-all contacts went to all phones. So far so good. The problem is if one person makes a change to their phone contact list then everyone else gets that change. We would like to have people enter contacts and have it appear only on that phone and not in the other 40+ phones. Likewise, if they delete a contact it gets deleted everywhere.

Ideally we would able to "lock" some contacts on all phones but allow additional contacts to be added by users without it affecting all the other phones. We were able to do this with out prior dumbphones on Sprint. These are on VZW.

Ideas?

This might suck, but have 1 Master account and 1 specific account for each phone. So you have 40 phones, you then have 41 Gmail accounts. Have the phone sync the master and specific account to the device.

Even then, I am not sure if that will even work out all that well. The dual syncing might still delete contacts from the master.

We are having trouble getting the second account onto the phone. Might take some more fiddling.

Do you know if there is a limit to how many numbers can be synched with one Google account?

Try Settings>Accounts>Add account. You should be able to add a second Google account.
