new to TB/smart phones, few questions

sorry for all the questions guys. i just didnt know phones like this existed, lol

why is my satellite constantly on?

are you positive it is the satellite? it will look like a profile of a satellite dish with some flashing green ((('s coming out of it.

The compass one will stay on all the time, because of e911

oh then no.. the thing i was talking about kinda looks like a compass but it has waves coming out of its right end.. its 2 icons to the left of the wifi icon

the compass rose with the )) means the gps is on. if it is just the compass, then it is e911 only. As you turn on and off different gps' (vzw, google, standalone) there will be more or less of the ))'s

The satelitte with the green (('s means it is being used (and using battery quickly)

I placed a widget on one page that I can just tap to turn the GPS hardware on and off. I'm not sure it is saving me any power in the long run.
Even with the GPS hardware off, Verizon and Google location services are running, which are good enough to tell you what movies are playing and such. No good for navigation of course.

I actually have VZW turned off. I don't use VZWnav. I use the google nav. I figured out that the gps widget doesn't do what it should. I only turns off the standalone gps. If you want to turn off the gps altogether, you have to go to settings>location. You would think it would turn them all of, or at least toggle thru them all.

ok guys im still having problems with "Maps". its using 12% of my battery currently. i havent clicked on it at all. and when i go to applications, the "force stop" is greyed out

Backing out of an app (other than the browser) typically closes it. Hitting the home key leaves the app open.
