Hey everybody!
On the 20th of this month, I finally ditched my Palm Pre+ for a nice new Droid Razr! It was about time, too, since my Pre has seen MUCH better days. Don't get me wrong, I loved the phone and still love webOS... but the device hardware was garbage. The power button broke, meaning i needed an app to shut the screen off (thanks webOS community!) and the screen would "touch itself," resulting using the device to be pretty frustrating. Those issues didn't arrive until this past summer, so i got more life out of one Pre than most.
But anyway, i am liking Android. After playing with a Gnex in the store, i saw many design choices taken from webOS and put into ICS. I feel as though webOS definitely does navigation much easier than Android, but now that Google has Matias Duarte, I am excited for the future of Android and ICS. After reading some other forum posts, i can see many Android users hate webOS, hopefully they embrace ICS!
Now about the Droid Razr... I was torn between this phone and the Gnex. Both had solid reviews and their share of quirks, so i just had to see for myself. It seems as though the Verizon employees really wanted me to have a Gnex. Why? ICS. That was really their only argument... I wanted to spend my $300 on not just an Android update, but a well-built device... I'm not saying the Gnex is lacking quality, it definitely felt like a well built device! After a spec comparison, the Razr had better specs in almost every category. The Gnex had a better screen (which was barely noticable) and a slightly larger battery. The non-removeable battery of the razr seemed like it would be a bad thing, but ive never had the need to remove a battery on any phone, unless they locked up. The razr has a button command to reset a frozen device, in case it is ever needed. The key element that drove me away from the Gnex was the camera. It has the same camera as my Pre+ from 2009. Not to say that the Gnex is on the same quality levels of the Pre, but.... come on Samsung, really? THIS is flagship?
So, i obviously chose the Razr. I decided to wait a few months for the ICS update that is "promised" for this device when it is ready. After owning it for a week, I can say the device has not failed in any way. Battery life is better than my Pre+, even with 4G. I can get through a 16 hour day with moderate use with about 30% left before I charge it for the night. Smart actions help more than i would have thought too, especially if you are around wifi. With wifi on, battery life seems to double. 4G is quite the battery hog...
Well, i would go on and rant about myself, but i feel as though ive ranted enough! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and i cannot wait to hear back from the community! Thanks!
