I haven't tried it yet but will. I read most of the thread. It has a few kinks to be worked out. I'm hearing really good things about this. It's an alternative to ClockworkMod Recovery. It overwrites it so you'd be using TWRP exclusively.

Havent seen that yet - i'll ahve to check it out.
I have the third party touch cwr - not koush's or this one you posted.

Looks cool

Saw a bunch of people raving about it so I flashed it for a little bit yesterday actually. Ran a backup with it just to see if it was really that much faster than CWR... I'd say it is, but not that much. If a regular CWR backup takes like 5-6 minutes I believe it took 4 with TWRP.

Considering its still in beta and not perfect, and how delicate and important a recovery is, I flashed my good old trusty touch CWR back after a few. Not ready to trust it as a daily recovery myself.

Yeah, I know which one you're talking about. I had it for a while myself. :)

TWRP is supossed to allow for theming and has some features that CWR doesn't have. It looks very promising. I'm gonna keep following the thread. I will let you guys know when i install it and how it goes. :)

Yeah. I've held off on trying it since it was Beta and I could see they hadn't worked out all the kinks. Thanks for the report on it though! :)

We had TWRP recovery back oh I'd say at least 2 or 3 months ago on the NS4G.. Its nice..

Faster backups/restores.

More user friendly UI

Theme-able... Here are some examples my theme partner made for the NS4G versions... Not compatible with yours, different resolutions but it will give you an idea of what you can do....
[RLF][TWRP 2.0 Themes]30 Jan (NOTE THESE ARE FOR THE NS4G VERSION)

** Note CWM recovery backups are not compatible with this recovery and vise versa... So keep that in mind. At least that is how it is on the NS4G version.

That themeing stuff is pretty cool. However for myself, I just do my business in there and get out asap, so the themeing is not a big wow factor for me.

agreed. plus i like the look of regular cwm as it is.

but faster backups, etc, and a good ui for touch based recovery, could sway me.

I put TWRP on my stepson's kindle so I could put MIUI on it for him. It's pretty cool I guess. Clockwork is old school though, and I agree with the sentiments of of just sticking with it. So far, all my backups were with clockwork anyway.

Recovery Installable Zip:

openrecovery-twrp-2.1.0-toro-signed.zip

Download the above file. Reboot to recovery and install the zip using your existing recovery.

Would I be wrong if I said that feels a bit dirty lol.

I'm going to flash this a bit later, but only after I restore an old ROM so I have something 100% to backup there. How big are the backups compared to CWM? Same? Smaller?

To be honest its a good setup with TWRP. Sure not everyone may not be a big fan of the theme option, which is fine but the recovery itself is nice.

I've used CWM for so long it is nice to have an option. Team Win really came through on this new update. I love having the zip query.. That is awesome.. Setup to flash a ROM then follow up with GAPPS and kernel if need be and any other mods.. All in one shot.

As far as the installation technique, that is fine by me. I've done it both ways using Fastboot & CWM.

I've ran the earlier versions for months on the NS4G and its never been a problem. Backups always work and yes I do believe the backup files are smaller in size.

Then again its all written/performed in a different "format" than CWM uses so things can't be fairly compared in the file size department, we just know its quicker.

Does anyone know why it isn't compatible with cwm back ups? Curious.

Different recovery method, different scripting, etc. They might store/re-store information in a different method as well.

Yeah, that just seems wrong. Overwriting your recovery... with a recovery. It's like you feel bad for clockwork. Like, it's all "Sure, I'll install a zip from SD card for you buddy! Oh. I see what you did there. :( "

Poor clockwork. For that reason, I'll do it through fastboot so it doesn't see it coming.

If I ever install it, that is.

Not sure if you guys have a flash version of CWM but using that and having TWRP recovery zip on standby makes swapping between recoveries very simple. This then solves the worry of how do I use a CWM back up? You can restore your CWM backup then flash the TWRP recovery zip to swap recoveries and away you go...

I'm now running this Recovery on both my GNex and Transformer Prime, and i really like it! It's pretty much out of beta. I've had no problems with it. Done installs, backups, and restores. Works nicely. The interface just appeals to me and i like how its laid out. Highly recommend it!

I had to go back to CWM on my G-nex. Too many ROMs were failing to flash :( and I really hate CWM and want to run TWRP full time.

Really? In particular Roms? So far, it seems to be working okay for me.
