New Unihertz keyboard phone on the way!

Phones with physical keyboards aren't my thing when it comes to daily drivers, but they are interesting nonetheless. Can't wait to see what's coming.

I'm not interested in keyboard phones.. Those days are over for me.. That said it would be nice to see a new phone with one... I'm not familiar with this brand which probably won't be compatible with some carriers...

Physical keyboard phones died some time ago. The screen real estate is needed these days to embrace modern content.

There are still a few die hard BlackBerry fans out there that pine for a physical keyboard (I hear you Boon) but sadly those days are long gone.

I was a die hard BB fan from 2008 to 2017 but saw the light and never looked back.

But, at the end of the day, "what ever floats your boat" I guess.

I find now that I can type faster on a VKB than I ever could on a PKB and the world has moved on from those good old BB days. Sad but true.

A slider could provide both. But really I don't feel like my 4.5" screen (KEY2) is "small" unless I'm gaming, though I would have really appreciated an OLED.

I was a Samsung user until I came back to keyboards in 2017 with the KEYone...and I too never looked back to slabs as primary phones. Every one of them I tried after that, took me right back to my KEY2 after less than a week. The keyboard shortcuts are a real time saver with the muscle memory, couldn't really get used to losing those and having to solely rely on visual for finding the app icons I need. Felt like a big step back in productivity.

They are indeed gone for over 99% of smartphone users. As long as someone makes something for the less than 1% that want them, I'd be okay with that. But they won't ever gain real traction on the market unless Samsung or Apple decides to make keyboard add-on cases for their popular phones.

No physical KB for me...I got in the habit of swiping and just do that. Does anybody swipe or am I a dinosaur? Never could get the two handed thumb thing down, just so awkward to me.

Your quote says it all though. No regular OEM is really interested nor their carrier partners, to really what is less than 1% of probabilities of the potential users. The PKB loses too much screen real estate permanently and the physical slider isn’t really necessary when overwhelming majority of VKB crowd is fine with the virtual slider form of the VKB already in hand.

The Android OEMs would be churning these out, if any real significant demand existed, since all of the OEMs are looking to steal customers from each other. Meanwhile, the biggest two OEMs don’t need to cannibalize their own customer base since it would just cost them profits. It simply comes down to fact that PKB serves no actual unique demand that people will choose over VKB in significantly viable numbers.

That say it all Chuck. No further explanation required.
