New update killed connection to my watch

So, I have just installed the new update to the gear app and it has lost all connection with my watch?! Will not connect at all, even as a new connection.

I've tried rebooting the phone (s7e), and the watch, flicked Bluetooth off and on again on both devices, rolled back and reinstalled the update and cleared the cache?!

Anyone else had this or have any suggestions? Was working fine up until the update 😕
 
The watch is an s2, model SM-R720

Software version R720XXU2DPFB

Latest version of app on the phone is 2.2.16101261
 
I don't have that model, but several times ROM updates have required me to do a full reset to the watch when I felt it shouldn't be necessary.

That would probably be my first step after I tried the quick reset (or whatever they call it - reset lite)
 
Was hoping there would be a simple solution to save a reset 😞
