So I bought a new usb cable though Sprint. Model number MCX8842R. When its plugged in, a new screen comes up. It has 6 icons in grid form as below:

[Footprints] [Navigation]
[Voice Search] [View Map]
[Search] [Make Call]

This also shows up when I press home button while in any application and plugged in.

My concern is that this usb cable isn't designed for my phone, although Sprints site says it is. Is it supposed to be doing this?

Oh here is a link to that cable

Sprint - All Accessories

Thanks

Oh and I have it plugged into the wall outlet piece that came with the original usb cable if that makes any difference

No, that's the car dock app. That's essentially the wrong cable for what you want it for, but, you could use it in your car since that's what it's for.

Oh I gotya. I can see how those icons could be helpful in the car. So being a usb cable, does it normally connect to cars with usb power plugs? Or is there a usb cigarette adapter the cable should be used with?

I had left my charger at work, that's why I bought this one tonight. Should I return it for a different one?

Thanks again.

I have a cigarette lighter with a female usb on it that I use with the standard htc usb cable that came with the phone and it works without the car dock app coming up. I believe it has something to do with the number of pins in the micro end of the cable whether it triggers the car dock app or not.

Either way, the cable does charge, but if I were you, I'd return it unless you find that a useful feature.

Oh that makes sense. I can see it someone getting annoying if I'm using the phone plugged in. So it looks like i'll be returning it then :) I'm assuming any generic micro usb cable online will do the trick?

Thanks again for the help

Yeah, but I'd make sure it's compatible with at least some of those phones it lists in you link. And no problem.
