i've done some research and am ready to root my captivate now that i have a new GalaxyS2. i've already read in the forums on how to root. i'm still a little shakey on that but have some more questions before i actually start. here's what i want to accomplish.

1. root and install CM7
2. overclock (nothing too crazy though like maybe 1.2-1.3ghz)
3. be able to sideload
4. uninstall bloat
5. still have consistancy and stability.

Can i do all of this using the CM7 kernel? if not what is the best way to accomplish all of this?

open the opinion floodgates.

thanks in advance.

Better if this was posted to the SGS 2 forum. I doubt CM is available yet, but Samsung did give them out early to those devs, so maybe. Pretty sure the phone is 1.2 Ghz stock... very unlikely that it needs an overclock, based on my hands on with it yesterday.

But seriously, move a forum or three up for targetted assistance in the SGS 2 forums :).

i thought my first post was pretty clear, " ready to root my captivate ". I now own a GS2. if i brick the captivate, oh well.

still need opinions please.

Attitude always gets you places on the internet. So sorry I misunderstood.

Post #3 is about rooting your device.

Once rooted, go here-

[NIGHTLY][ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for Samsung Captivate (captivatemtd) - xda-developers

Instructions on how to get CM7 are a few paragraphs in. The short version being, install ROM Manager, flash Clockwork from ROM Manager (it will reboot), go back into ROM manager and DOWNLOAD ROM and select CM7. Couple more reboots, and done.

CM includes mild overclocking built-in, so getting to 1.2 can be done without anything more (MENU-SETTINGS-CM SETTINGS-PERFORMANCE-CPU SETTINGS). To go crazy on the OCUV front, you will need to flash the Glitch kernel here-

[KERNEL][CM7/MIUI][09/23/11] Glitch V12 beta -1.7GHz OC/UV-Voodoo - xda-developers

Cm7 is naturally bloat free and stable, so the rest of your list goes with the territory.

I apologize for my attitude. it was a rough day at work today. thank you so much for the help. Have a good one.
