Hi !

-just got a white s5 2 days ago, coming from an iPhone 4s. First, I love that thing, it's so fast and the screen is awesome...

But I have a serious question regarding anti-virus: Can I safely do bank/PayPal transaction on a Android device without antivirus/anti spy app if I don't watch porn or visit "suspect" Web site ? Is it safe enough if I don't clic dubious link on the internet or in email ??

Thanks !

Ph

Welcome to Android Central! Android is pretty secure, as long as you avoid the things you just mentioned. Most antivirus apps are superfluous now that Google can scan your phone to verify the apps that you've installed--although many antivirus apps also have other useful anti-theft features.

Nothing is ever 100% secure in tech, so it's conceivable that banking on a device could be vulnerable--but probably no more vulnerable than on your computer. What I would suggest is to avoid doing any sensitive transactions while logged into a public wi-fi network--do it only on your private home network (which is hopefully secured with a password), or using your own mobile data (3G/4G).

I have used both bank and PayPal apps and haven't had a issue yet. I buy and sell on eBay and use my phone and tablet for many transactions.

Hey !

Thanks guys ! I feel more confident about security now...

I already did my first (with Android) eBay buy tonight, using PayPal,
a nice Caseology case for my SGS5 is on the way home...

I know, a phone is a phone, but I'm super excited about the S5, already
put some movies in to watch in the bed, that screen is so hot !!

Thanks again !

Caseology makes some nice stuff. I have two cases for my Nexus 5 (distressed leather and carbon fiber textures), and one for my wife's M8 (kind of an alligator skin pattern).

My wife and I have been doing bank transactions with our bank since they released their first app. So far not one issue.

I downloaded some of the free paid apps from Amazon Appstore yesterday and needed to allow downloads from non-Google sources (or something like that). Do I need to virus scan Apps like Office Suite 7, Genius Scan Plus, mSecure ...? Also are their tutorials on GS5 security on Android Central?

Oh cool, I finally figure it out... I was searching for a red color security icon and was ready to reset my phone after too much time searching, but that blue icon finaly shows... it was already set to verify app.

Hello, and welcome. I came from a BlackBerry to a Samsung Galaxy (S4 Active, first then an S5). Currently I use Snap Secure, and Lookout Mobile security apps on my Samsung Galaxy S5. I've used these programs on my BlackBerry and both Samsung's.

I'm not worried but feel 'secure' having these. If you feel the need for a security app, I'd recommend one of these two. Also I'd look into Norton Mobile Security.
