How do I get clockwork recovery?? I rooted my DX with z4 then downloaded LL3gingerbread ROM to my SD and Koush DX bootstrap. I have all the pieces, but how do I get them to work??

In bootstrap hit Bootstrap recovery, wait for the confirmation then hit reboot recovery. That will take you into Clockwork recovery.

Oops...

Then once in Clockwork, wipe data/cache. Then go to install from SD, find the zip you are installing and choose it to install.

i see all these instructions about choosing "install from SD" and it sounds like you should be able to browse to the zips on your card. i only see "install update.zip from sd" (and i dont have that file on my card)

what am i missing?

If you are using the Leaked GB you have to use Droid 2 Bootstap recover because the Droid X build doesn't work with GN for now. The X version work for update nut wont function once you are in GB..

Just a heads up..

Choose 'Install zip from SD card' and then scroll down using the volume key to 'Choose zip from SD card'. That should list the things on your SD card, and then use the volume keys again to navigate to the zip you are looking for.

I got it to go with the DX bootstrap, I think you just have to make sure that USB Debugging is NOT on.

I reported it will install fine with the X version but once in GB it wouldn't work unless I missed something... I had debugging on and after reading post learned that you needed to use the Droid 2 version.

OH, I just noticed you said the Debugging needed to be OFF, I will try that but it doesn't matter because I downloaded and donated for the Droid 2 version so I have both, so which ever one works I am good

it looks like i'm in the "Android system recovery" is this where i should be? or is there a diff recovery that i should be in?

In this recovery screen, all i see is:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

nothing about being able to select a different zip file.

EDIT: i get to this recovery screen by running the Boot Strap app and hitting first the Bootstrap Recovery and after the confirmation, i hit the Reboot Recovery.

I just tested this and you was right, turn off debugging and it worked like normal, thanks for the info.

I can confirm this as well. DX Boostrap didn't work (rebooted to blank screen) until I turned OFF USB Debugging and now it works perfectly.

You are in the wrong recovery, you have to boot into system and open Bootstrap recovery and click Bootstrap recovery and click the ok that will pop up and then click Reboot Recovery and you should then boot into the correct one.

YouTube - Install Gingerbread 2.3.3 Leak WITH ROOT on Droid X DroidX ! How to Flash Tutorial

thanks for the video link. yeah, i'm doing the steps (i mean its two buttons to press :) not rocket science)

and on reboot it just goes to the triangle exclamation and android bot. it doesn't boot into clockwork recovery (or whatever that recovery is that is showing on this guys video).

not sure where to go from here. maybe just hafta wait for OTA

thanks again

No sweat wildman, I might have to eventually get the D2 bootstrap as well, how else could we rsd in the future without USB debugging enabled?;)

Sorry to say, you better stay away from a rocket :D, just messing with you but if you are seeing triangle you are still pressing the home and power and accessing the stock recovery. You do not need to press any buttons to access Bootstrap...
