Hi guys,
I need your help. I just ordered my first Android (Samsung Galaxy S3). I have come from many years of having an iPhone. Well techinicaly I first got the HTC EVO on Sprint when it was first released, but it was crappy and I went to iPhone shortly thereafter.

So I have some questions about Android. Hopefully The S3 isn't outdated (Doesn't seem like it since it still has great specs and great reviews).
One of the biggest benefits of the iPhone for me was the automatic backup via WiFi of messages, settings, photos, data, contacts, notes, etc... As soon as you plugged it into the charger and had a wifi connection, it would automatically back everything up.

Is there anything like this for Android? I understand there is no Cloud Service like iCloud, but I would be okay if it would let me back up to a computer or even a server (I have a server at home that's on 24/7).

I would really appreciate your help in the matter. I am off to the Galaxy S3 section to read about rooting etc... I would like to have stock Android on it.

First of all welcome to a mostly great android community :) Far as your new S3... Still a nice phone, my daughter still loves her's. I would have maybe waited till black Friday to see what kind of deals you could get on more current phones but for an older phone the S3 is nice.

Second is the cloud service. You may want to check out Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/

Good luck and hit us up with questions when/if you have em

Thank you. I use dropbox for photos , even on my iphone. But how do i set it up so that it could work like iCloud so that my text messages and setting get backed up there as well

Welcome to the forums.
Google is starting to do their own version of backing up for settings and app data. It is a slow process but they are making it happen.
As far as backing up your Text messages, there is a program called Kies from Samsung, just for this purpose. It is their answer to iTunes. Can be downloaded from Samsung's site.

Good luck with the S3, it is a good device.
