Newbie question...UNLOCKED S8+...G950U and Verizon

Hello all -- please help!!! And please pardon the newbie question, and keep in mind I am technologically handicapped, LOL.

I ordered a new UNLOCKED Galaxy S8+ -- and made sure I was ordering a G950U (as per recommendations I received here). I want to stay with VZW and not move to ATT. So, the device came in and while it was apparently UNLOCKED, it was in fact a G950V (specifically geared toward VZW). So, I returned it.

Here's my question -- if you get an UNLOCKED G950U...and you activate it with VZW...will it be fully functional? 5G? Wi-fi calling? I am just trying to make sure I don't get a device and find out after the fact that it's not fully functional or I am missing certain features/functions.

Also, what happens after 2019 when CDMA is gone? Does that impact me? Waiting for January 2020 when CDMA is no longer here isn't an option for me. Right now I am running an old device, can't access my emails normally, can't sync calendars, etc.

Hi, yes the unlock will work on Verizon , you won't get RCS and video chat as the carrier version but WiFi calling should work from what I hear around the forums, definitely TMobile and Att works . The unlocked version doesn't come with any carrier bloat also , hope this helps .

Thanks Mustang! I greatly appreciate it. While I don't know what RCS is -- as far as the video chat, I use WhatsApp for free video calling/chats. It works great. I've been trying to avoid having to jump ship and move carriers (to ATT). Thanks again.

As far as RCS that's so you can read text receipts and can see them writing you, better quality pictures to other people through messages. The video chat is only available through other Samsung device that gave the features and some lg that have it .

Thanks again Mustang. I am more of a simplified tech user than a real techie, road warrior, etc. -- and hence the name, I am a tech *****, LOL. I only use my video chat when my daughter is living abroad. That's it. As far as text receipts and the like...I am grateful my text app works! LOL. Thanks again.
