Well I have to start off by saying that this is my first android phone and the first time I'm doing any of this, so just making sure I do everything right in the process.

Now I have already unlocked the bootloader of the phone and rooted it, however I've come under the assumption that its not permanent? I used clockwork recover and made a back up, but now there's a way to make it permanent? Does this mean if I restart my phone it wont be rooted anymore? Should I be doing this? I'm not to sure.

And once you are rooted what are some of the first things that I should be doing with my phone?

Any help or suggestions is highly appreciated

If you've unlocked the bootloader doing fastboot oem unlock and you've installed superboot then you're good to go. The roots permanent, but you can check by trying to open the app superuser

Well I did use fastboot for unlocking, but I didn't use superboot, I used clockworkmod for the root.

I would assume that makes a difference in this case.

clockworkmod works also. Just search the market for root checker download it and open it if you're still not sure.

Thanks for the tip. Downloaded it and said I have root access. So good to go I guess.

I did have to reboot the phone afterwards, still said the same thing however.

To have a permanent recovery, you need to move or re-name the system file that double checks that you have the stock recovery every time you reboot. Go into recovery mode - if it's still Clockwork, then you're good.
