I'm new to rooting and looking for a "end all be all guide" to rooting a Droid X2 ruining gingerbread 2.3.4. Also whats the best back up utility and anything else i should do before i root or after? TIA

Use Titanium Backup before rooting.

How to root the Droid X2

I also found this site helpful:
XDA Developers

Don't use the first link on 2.3.4 as that's gingerbreak and it only works on 2.2.2 (froyo). However the 2nd link to xda has a link for "Motorola one click" which works great for 2.3.4 which I've been using for months with no issue. Just make sure "unknown applications" and "USB debugging" are checked under applications, start one click and when you plug in your phone it will do the rest.

Also, you can't use titanium backup until you have root access. Once you have root download titanium. It's well worth $6 foot the full license so you can do batch backups and restorea if you plan to flash anything.

Sent from my Droid X2 that I'm probably about to flash another new ROM on.
