So just received the newest Samsung update about 2 days ago. It has absolutely destroyed the battery life. Made sure no background apps running, disabled all not being used, ran maintenance and deleted all apps not used within 2 months. Anyone else notice this if you got this new update?
Also it alerts me now for everything!! It's annoying.

There are other threads on this topic. It destroyed my battery life. I downgraded back to nougat today and so far I'm noticing an obvious positive difference in battery life and oddly enough performance has been better too. Plus I can theme everything again with substratum. Couldn't be happier with my decision to go back to nougat!

I have never downgraded so I'm thinking this may have to happen though. I was at 100 at 5pm and now 65% and its 7:30pm.

For me, it has worked out beautifully. I was only able to charge up to 80% battery because I had something to do after I set my phone up, and I never got to putting it back on the charger ... right now I just hit 50% from 80% with 3½ hours screen on time. That's not on battery time.... that's screen on time - downloading apps, setting everything up, a bit of youtube and social media, etc. With Oreo I wouldn't have anywhere near that and my phone would be dead by now. Pro tip: DO NOT RESTORE FROM YOUR GOOGLE BACKUP OR ANY BACKUPS WHATSOEVER! START COMPLETELY FRESH!

If you want to downgrade - go to Sammobile, go to the firmware section, type in and search for your model number, and download the latest nougat file for your phone and carrier. It takes a while to download if you register a free account (a few hours for me) ... make sure you have the latest Odin installed, which you'll find a link to from that same page in the instructions section if you scroll a little ways down. Follow the instructions carefully and you'll be all set. There's also a video you can and should watch. If you end up doing it, I highly recommend skipping the initial setup process, powering down, and booting into stock recovery (volume up, Bixby button and power button held at the same time) and factory reset again (my ritual is 3 times in a row for good measure, then reboot system) ... Good luck! Come back if you have any issues.

P.S... SCREW OREO!

Thank you!!

Almost forgot .... If you end up doing it, sign out of ALL Samsung and Google accounts on the phone before starting the process.

try a factory reset. it's common for Android to bed one after a major update. O is a good upgrade.

I factory reset and started fresh twice and it was still terrible. Sorry, my experience tells me O was NOT a good upgrade. Others might have a better experience and that's good for them, but for those of us that aren't pleased with Oreo, this is a solid option to get things working the way they should again. Nougat just worked. No issues whatsoever. That's awesome if you're having a good experience with Oreo though! I'm certainly not saying Oreo is terrible for everyone... it's was just terrible for me and I couldn't wait to get away from it.

I had the same issue with my s7. Out of the six I owned only two liked N. I found the best way was to completely start fresh with no Samsung or Google backup.

Yep, that's always good practice. I did it twice with Oreo and my phone was just not liking it at all. Did it with nougat and it's been rock solid and performance has been amazing. No real explanation for it. That's why it never really makes sense when some people get defensive about these things because my experience might be completely different than yours with any version of the OS, through really no fault of our own. Android's just weird like that sometimes.

Once again...this stupid app has taken over. I forced it to stop but it keeps coming back!! 20180325_002306.jpg

I've disabled this thing 90 billion times (well maybe not that many but...). Maybe I'm doing it all wrong. It only now let's me force a stop.
Click on battery and there should be an option to stop it from running in the background.

Swipe the allow background activity offScreenshot_20180325-000601_Settings.jpg

I swear on everything that is holy, if it comes back my phone is possessed.

If it does, you may want to consider investing in Package Disabler Pro. Definitely worth it. Just be careful what you disable. But, honestly, it shouldn't turn itself back on like that. That's very strange. Have you tried a factory reset yet after installing Oreo, like dooki suggested? That should clear up any issues, provided you start fresh and don't restore from any backups. Of course, you want to backup all pictures, videos, texts and so on before you do that. Small hassle but it's well worth it in the end.

Besides telling you to get package disabler to get rid of it or a priest I'm out of ideas. Lol

Did what was suggested and battery seems to be working well now. Odd that where I read Oreo is supposed to help with battery. Lies!!! Lol.
Now my question is, how long before another update happens not related to Oreo such as security patches and what not that it will try to update Oreo again? For now, no priest is needed.
