[NEWS] ICS Source Code Released!

Will you look at that system requirements for compiling Ice Cream Sandwich? I doubt we'll get as many frequent releases for it as we did with Gingerbread.

Don't believe the requirements, I've talked to people who have built Android on extremely subpar systems, just takes a lot longer to compile. ;)

Aww man...if you guys nailed GINGERBREAD ....SUPER STOKED!! Im staying tuned in.

Doesn't seem to really be any stand-out features that make me feel the need to upgrade. I will anyway if a ROM becomes available though, just for fun, lol.

I'd like to see something akin to the WP7 camera on Android. Love that there is basically no waiting when you need to snap a quick photo.

it looks like CM9 will be available in 2 months according to Twitter, so we'll probably see something around mid to late January.

well worth the wait!

Meh, most of the ICS upgrades seem like just extra flair, I think I'll keep my IHO rom thank you ^^.

the main stand-out new feature from ics I read about is the no-delay camera action. I seriously hate digital camera "shutter" delay, being used to archaic film cameras which snap a pic immediately on pressing the button.

You can turn off auto-focus for most shots that aren't close already, since the small sensor has a huge depth of field, basically from 3 ft to infinity.

Has anyone successfully repo synced 4.0yet? I keep getting unable to communicate errors, I just thought I would try out of boredom

I had to download sdk to get the Android 4.0 (API 14) update, my older version would not update.

Agreed, you are compiling code, not trying to do something time sensitive.
Not to mention those requirements are just plain silly.

My first run at building for the Nexus device folder provided by Google errored out with a no-proguards error with frameworks-res. In my experience building from IHO, this occurs when my system memory is full, and the only solution is a reboot (I'm sure there's other solutions, I'm no Ubuntu expert).

I'm only running 2Gigs or memory right now on a 3.2ghz dual core processor, but I'm gonna double the memory and see if that helps with these situations.

Don't forget us in the Optimus S gang. :)
Probably not too different but I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance.

Mav.

Maybe increasing your virtual RAM (via larger swap file) can help until the real RAM arrives.

That means it'll compile even slower on my computer lol I'm only running a 2.6Mhz dual core with 2 gigs. Of course, this has suited my so far, so I haven't felt the need to upgrade. Last thing I "upgraded" was getting a 1 TB WD passport drive
