Next Nexus possibly on "all carriers"

Just saw BGR tweeted this:

monster Google Nexus / Ice Cream Sandwich / every carrier / every OEM post coming.

If this is the case and the rumored new Nexus is coming to Verizon (also rumored to be in November), would that influence your decision on the Bionic? I know it would for me... the thought of getting a pure Google Experience device only a few months after the Bionic released is very tempting. My Droid Incredible can last a few more months. :)

While I think it would be nice, it won't affect my decision in the slightest. I'm getting either the Bionic or the GSII when they're released. I've waited far too long to go any further.

Question though ... if the Bionic is unlocked (and assuming the GSII is as well), could a relatively "stock" experience be attained on either device via a custom ROM?

BGR posted his story, see here.

So, it looks like there will only be ONE Nexus device, the Prime, made by Samsung and probably on T-Mobile if history is any judgment. The other devices won't be Nexus branded but will still be flagship - like the OG Droid and Xoom. But does that mean that flagship devices aren't skinned? What constitutes a flagship device? I can only imagine that manufacturers can't wait to get their grubby little hands all over ICS just to ruin it with skins.

It would be nice but it would not influence me to wait till November. I will get The Bionic this Summer unless The GS2 is 4G LTE.

Meh. Truth be told, I?m not overly bothered by the skinned options. I just want a good, future proofed phone. One that will get me a day of battery life, have good antennas/receivers so I can get good connection inside the office, and won?t be barred from running/playing the best apps even at the end of my 2 yr contract. Plus be able to do Netflix and video chat to computers.

So far this cycle Verizon hasn?t been able to deliver that, skinned or no skin.

I?m 99% sure that either the Droid 3, Bionic (or possibly HP Pre3) will be my next phone. Nexus isn?t that important to me.

Yes. A complety stock ROM can be flashed if its unlocked.

That was my feeling. Doesn't that strongly minimize the allure of a Nexus device then? Of course, that again is granted that the devices are unlocked.

Ice Cream is built on “specific" hardware, the next nexus. While a unlocked bootloader means you can run a stock ROM, and have a pure Google experience, a nexus is just a tad bit more Google, considering hardware integration. So only one nexus (old buttons of the past gone) then what the dealership of the rest give you "their idea" and while you can strip it stock, you can't change the hardware "trivial." Should be a great year for us!

Yeah it minimizes it to a point. People may like to experience the ICS Google experience without hard/soft buttons, like its intended so that will be a draw until all oems move to that set-up. But yeah I think it will slightly diminish the allure.

But the allure of a Nexus device is very strong among enthusiast and customers alike as you know.

I prefer a Nexus as long as its not made by HTC :)

I agree if the bionic bootloader is unlocked then I wont be worried about a nexus. With an unlocked bootloader the devs will get leaks and make roms much faster then carriers will push out updates and sometimes even faster then google can fix some of the bugs.

Samsung is impressing the hell out of me lately. While a nexus will be the premium offering, and considering at&t acquisition of tmo, a nexus on the largest network is tough to beat. A gs2 will hold up well on cdma here in the states. I hope that sd card is 32 gigs.

We all know ICS will have a glitch? I don't know I haven't run it yet, ha ha. Being designed for only the Nexus, it is likely it may have a bug or two on "other" hardware... Bionic = yuck Imo.

The great thing about having a Nexus though, if you want a pure experience you don't have to void your warranty to have it. If only every phone had it, but then again having a choice is always nice.

Sent from my evil hideout. MUWHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Honestly.. its the same old thing. How long can you hold out for a phone is the question.. My hands tremble at the sight of 4G phones since the force is strong here (I mean 4G signal in CT). I have been waiting for some news on the mythical beast known as Bionic. But rumors swell about untold treasures in a platinum wrapped Samsung Box that just might be LTE now (Galaxy).... But if you wait still longer ... Nostrodomus has said that All People will be able to eat Ice Cream and it will be good! (Nexus)....

I'm not a patient or a strong man.. im due for my last NE2 in 3 weeks.. so I'm thinking the Bionic will be winning out... yeah I know.. but I think if I get a new device sooner rather than later... I can get a new device sooner in the future :)

So stop trying to tempt me with your predictions and rumors.. just gimmie a dang Dual Core 4G LTE light sabre and let me go slay some Jedi.. i mean er :)

PS. There is a lightsabre app for Android ya know!

I will get the Bionic/GSII, and if the Nexus (Prime/whatever) impresses me I will get it to. Problem solved.

It sounded like each mfg would use the nexus prime specs as a reference platform, each would need to put forth their own 720p display and dual-core processor and other matching specs, otherwise they look stupid.

Wouldn't that be prime!
