Next Nexus possibly on "all carriers"

The problem then becomes... if you wait out on the ICS Nexus I can almost guarantee that by the time November rolls by, we're gonna be hearing news of better, awesomer "upcoming" devices. When does the cycle stop?

If I'm gonna stick it out on Verizon, it'll be the Bionic.

Hopefully it doesn't. ;)

But while there are always better devices on the horizon, the technology advancement seems to be more "step-wise" than a steep slope upwards. Meaning, there are more incremental jumps (or leaps) in technology versus gradual and continuous advancement. With that, I think the key is to be on the leading edge of the "step" such that you have the longest time before another incremental step in technology is taken.

Just saw BGR tweeted this:

If this is the case and the rumored new Nexus is coming to Verizon (also rumored to be in November), would that influence your decision on the Bionic? I know it would for me... the thought of getting a pure Google Experience device only a few months after the Bionic released is very tempting. My Droid Incredible can last a few more months. :)

I'd hold off on the Bionic and wait for the Nexus too if the recent rumors prove to be true.

For me the big question is whether ICS will be backwards compatible with older phones that still use physical buttons at the bottom of the screen. It's possible the Bionic could be obsolete within four months of its launch date.

I want the bionic and most likely will get that when it launches. I mean you can keep waiting but there will always something better around the corner. I am sure the bionic will more than suit my needs and if it doesnt then I will sell it and buy something else full price.

Since my upgrade is not up till next year (and with the prospects of keeping my unlimited plan), then I would definitely be going for a Nexus.

Although I wouldn't blame people for getting the Bionic now. It seems like it would be a nice device.

The great thing about having a Nexus though, if you want a pure experience you don't have to void your warranty to have it. If only every phone had it, but then again having a choice is always nice.

Sent from my evil hideout. MUWHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

EXCELLENT point! You are correct.

If doesn't stop but look how strong the Nexus S is still desired. That device is still kicking arse. Still one of the best handsets on the market.

If I could own any device it would be a Nexus. Nothing compares to them (in MY opinion)

I actually meant to imply "when does the cycle of 'keeping yourself from purchasing one device because a more powerful one is coming along in 3 months' end ".

Smartphones can keep coming and we sure as hell benefit from all of it, but if I don't pull the trigger on the Bionic because the new Nexus is around the corner what keeps me from pulling the trigger on the Nexus when XYZ is just around the corner?

CHOICES DAMN IT, WHY MUST WE HAVE SO MANY OF THEM

Because you're not buying an iPhone. Choices are good :) though indeed overwhelming.

This talk of another Nexus is tempting, but I don't think I can hold out that long either. I'm due for an upgrade now...

Im due for an upgrade now also and have had my eye on the bionic since it was first announced at CES. Samsung is getting better with updates but I am sure that verizon will cripple it like they did with the fascinate, to keep the bionic as the flagship of their droid and their entire lineup. Hopefully moto got it right this time. It is going to be a long few weeks waiting for new news lol.

How I do. Me and you were all over crackberry beating the Moto drum. How things change huh? :)

Ha ha, hell yes the drum "was" loud and undisputed!

Wow, this is awesome news if true. I'd love for the next Nexus to still have the best display on the market, and I have to say Samsung is really stepping it up lately. I do find it a little odd though that the article mentions having a TI processor in a Samsung built device. But who knows, maybe Google actually intends for multiple manufacturers to bring their expertise to the same device, and have a standard set of specs that they can all build? Who knows. Anyway, things are about to get a lot more exciting.

For those worried about the "cycle never ending", it will with the next Nexus, that's how it works. The hottest new devices with all the goodies start to come out, then the Nexus comes out and shows them all how its done, with stock AOSP/Google everything, and its very stable and runs like a dream. It has all the best of currently available hardware, and the very latest software as soon as its released, the way Google intended. Other hardware that comes out soon after is fairly similar, and certainly on the same "step", as someone mentioned. It'll be this way for awhile, until the next big jump in hardware brought on by the next version of Android sometime next year.

So no offense to those still waiting on the Bionic, but unless it actually is Moto's flagship based off the Nexus reference, they can keep it. Its coming out after tiered and right before the next iPhone, so not great timing for the mass market. As for Android, we have the GS2 coming soon, and likely these Nexus devices this fall. They've said it isn't aimed at enthusiasts, so it isn't likely one of the "Nexus flagship" devices the article mentions, so hopefully it does have the baremetal hypervisor mentioned before, otherwise I don't see much of a market by the time it launches.

Regardless, if you've waited this long for the Bionic, and we hear that a Nexus device, or something very similar, is coming to Verizon soon, I would definitely think it would be worth waiting for. Right when the newest Nexus drops always seems to be the very best time to buy a device, as it includes all of the major advancements around that time. So yes, that is when things slow down a little, though thankfully we see no signs of things stopping anytime soon.

But I would LOVE to see another Samsung-built Nexus come to all the carriers, they really have stepped it up of late and seem to understand the Android community and its possibilities better than anyone else. Not to mention they and LG both have a large stake in the home entertainment and appliance industry that Google seems to be interested in bringing Android to in the future...

This definitely influences my decision. I feel like a little kid, who got a peek at his birthday presents early. I was flip flopping the Bionic and the SGSII, but now that this is in the mix I am unsure. I need full reviews of all three devices before I make a final decision. I am thankful that we have choices, but I just wish the answer was much more clear cut. (And came a little bit faster in my opinion. ;) )

I have to agree. I really wish they would prove me wrong but I just don't see it happening. I think the OG Droid was it. Hope one will come someday but right now I just don't see it.

Thats why you are aptly named :)

Oh and they don't bloat the iPhone because Apple has the cajones to tell them NO. Too bad the other manufacturers don't stand up to them.

Agree I wish google would step up and say they are putting the phone on their network maybe even entice them by saying it will just be on their network for a few months before others networks.
