From phonedog I heard the next nexus phones will be sold only from Google and not carriers? Anyone know about this? Think its true or false?

That's how they started the nexus one. Sold only by google... wasn't too profitable so they changed it back to regular venues...

I couldn't see them changing back to an older failed strategy. Doesn't make sense business-wise.

I think it will. The brand is much stronger now and people who like android are realizing that the simplest and most effective way to purchase and more importantly get quick software updates are with the nexus devices. I myself will only buy nexus from now on. Being able to purchase the galaxy nexus for $350 without dealing with a new contract or the carriers is great. Any GSM OR HSPA carrier the device will work on and you just pop in the sim card you already have. I think it's a great move that I will definitely be taking advantage of in the future

Sent from my Skyrocket and soon my NEXUS 7!

Its the only way Google can get there point across. Hopefully we can see phones with CDMA and GSM capabilities in one. That's kind of a pipe dream but its all possible .

I dont think they will have a problem with VZW anymore if the selling of the dev edition of the GS3 direct from samsung is a precedent. Probably thanks to the open network mandate. I think it is now possible to sell a single nexus that will work on TM, ATT, or VZW. Sprint is the only remaining wild card... That would be awesome though. I'm not sure if that would be a good Idea because that's a lot of antennas to stuff into one phone. If any phone does it soon though, it will be the nexus. The S4 SoC's have support for pretty much every useful standard but actually including the antennas takes up more space.

My personal opinion is quite jaded on this matter as unless Google & an OEM can team up to essentially force carriers to take the design "as is" (SGSIII) & software to boot on a new Nexus device then all is lost. Not to mention the different radios needed to work on all US carriers....I'm hopeful of this possibility but not holding my breathe with how difficult it seemingly is to make a single style streamlined device these days unless you're patent/sue happy apple. If that happens though, watch out iPhone cause I think google isn't gonna bring out a behind the 8-ball(hardware especially) Nexus this time. That's just my 2 cents lol

I don't think Google can ever sell exclusively like they tried with the Nexus One.

That said, I can see Play store sales and carrier sales.

I highly doubt we'll see multiple Nexi from google this year if anything it will be a Nexus that will sell on all carriers GSM CDMA LTE alike but even then I'm dreaming in the clouds on that one as Verizon/AT&T will make it very difficult. I'd love to see 3 of them released con-currently from HTC Moto & Samsung with the same OS, Ram, CPU, & world phone capabilities. With the manufactures having their own spin on it of course but again thats a fantasy us consumers will never see nor Google be allowed to do. One can only hope!

The 5 rumored nexi seem to be in various forms, not just phone. We already have some of them. Nexus Q, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 (rumored), Nexus phone?, ???. So one, maybe two, nexus phones. Or the fifth one might be google TV.

As far as a phone to sell on all carriers AT&T cant stop it, they are GSM. You can already buy an unlocked Nexus that works on AT&T or T-Mobile. And now with the open network strings that came attached to the 700 MHz spectrum deal VZW must open up the LTE network. Sprint is the only one that is being stubborn and sealing SIM cards in their phones. But when people start buying Nexi and iphones that work on every carrier but Sprint they will have to cave. I think this will be a good year to go Nexi shopping. :)

As I nexus user I would that but we have to get all the carriers to play nice.
