Nexus 10 or Galaxy Note 10.1? Thoughts?!

I think this sums all of it up for you actually. Again it is use case. You have a Galaxy Note 2 Phone. So you have a phone with the exact same specs as the Note 10.1, and truthfully if you need to take hand written notes then you can just down it on the phone and not have to worry about it on the 10.1. If you didn't have your note would it be a concern. I know for me it would be.

To suggest someone use a bluetooth keyboard when they want to use handwriting is a bit silly. Plus if that was really the direction they would like to go then they should probably look at a surface tablet, or a Asus transformer tablet.

The fact you harp on screen resolution and PPI actually makes you appear to the one trying to defend your purchase. Before you try to claim i am speaking out of turn, I have a Note 1, a Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7", my GF has Note 10.1 that I got for her, and then I had a Xoom Wifi before my nexus.

Bless you for your words!!! I feel like i'm taking crazy pills when talking to Zarathustra. Like you said, how can one person tell another that they don't need handwritten notes while they're holding the Note 2? That's the whole reason to buy a Note 2. It's easy to bash everyone else's decisions and needs when yours are covered. If I wanted to type my notes, I would use my laptop. When someone is wanting a particular product for a particular reason, you don't ignore that reason and suggest a completely different product unless you're a car salesman. I would love it if the Note had a higher screen resolution, but I prefer that it have the S Pen. If I had to choose over again, i'd take the S Pen. Screen Resolution on the Note is sufficient for what I use it for. It certainly isn't the greatest out there, but I didn't buy the Note to watch Netflix. I have a tv and PS3 for that. BUT if I do want to watch Netflix, the screen on the Note is perfectly acceptable. I also use it as an e reader, and the letters are perfectly fine for that. Especially because I read at night so I put it on the night setting so the words are white with black background. It's very easy on the eyes for hours of reading.

I wish technology could change then fact that all comparison topics seem to turn into a miniature war. :P

Quite the contrary. The Note 2's PPI is somewhere in the neighborhood of 260 if I recall correctly, and the Note 10.1's is only 149.

The fact you harp on screen resolution and PPI actually makes you appear to the one trying to defend your purchase.

Not quite. I bought the Note 10.1, Asus Infinity, and Nexus 10 all at the same time. The decision to keep the Nexus 10 and return the other two was an easy one. I very much like the Note 10.1's functionality, but that they went to market with that screen is astonishing to me.

I guess the car analogy is more like comparing a Toyota Prius to a BMW if they were the same price. The BMW is going to look better, drive better, offer a superior driver experience by any reasonable measure. The Prius is more a niche car for people who want to save the world or to save on gas. Some people need an S Pen or expandable storage, so the Note 10.1 makes sense for them. But if you're not a part of that niche, the Nexus 10 is going to be the better device. The Nexus 10 has a premium feel like a BMW. The Note 10.1 has a budget feel like a Toyota Prius, but also like the Prius, it has its own special niche.

You do understand the limitation on the screen ppi is the Wacom Digitizer and not samsung using a lower PPI display?

Other then physical size of the screen what is different between the Note 10.1 and the Note 2 Phone.

The fact I have my Note1 is why I didn't get the Note 10.1. I actually thought about it allot. I was debating getting a nexus 4 or a S3 and then getting the Note10.1 as a productive tablet. I use my Note in meeting to take down notes and do various tasks. When the S-Pen is needed there really is no other choice.

For what the Nexus 10 does it does very well. But there are things it can't do. The Note10.1 has allot more potential to be more versatile, with just lacking the PPI on the display.

I've seen some threads where people stated that. Others maintain that is not the case. Either way, whatever the reason, the Note 10.1's screen is still only 149 ppi which is bottom of the barrel in 2013.

The screen resolution of the Note 2 is superior as reflected by the PPI stats.

Who cares? They're all great for what they're meant for.

Some people just need to be heard because they think their opinion is superior to others.

I have both a note 2 and a note 10. In my job I can carry the note 10 into areas that my note 2 is not allowed (cellular radio). I can utilize the same software on the 10 to take notes and still have the s pen instead of swyping a keyboard or tapping all of the words out.

I have never looked at my note tablet as cheap and the resolution is perfectly acceptable at a 720p hd (or close enough). The same with the note 2.

By comparing a prius to a bmw shows where your thought process is at. The bmw is meant to be a somewhat luxury automobile, while a prius is more utilitarian. Last I checked a prius costs close to some of the 3 class bmw models as well. Just goes to show you that people will settle for "cheap", even in the $30000 range as well. After all, if the prius saves you money in the long run on gas and maintenance to the engine, then the total cost of ownership is how you should value a vehicle or technology. If my tabket comes with a s pen/stylus built in, that means that I don't have to buy one in the future if needed as well as all of the necessary software already inckuded so I can utilize said s pen/stylus efficiently. Total cost of ownership for the life of the item.

A nexus 10 is fine for people that want vanilla android, but I do not. I lije touchwiz on my samsung devices and have used a nexus 7 before. I returned it as I thought it felt cheaply made and the os was too bland and boring (ala ios).

Galaxy S4 or Note 3 for my next. Decisions, decisions.

I'm just trying to help people make an informed decision since I've had the benefit of owning both devices. I'm sorry that the Note 10.1 owners are getting so upset that my opinion does not comport with their own. I'm sharing my honest impressions of that screen. It really is something else.

The personal attacks over Android tablets will not bother me at all. Dangling prepositions, on the other hand, will invariably rattle me to the core.

I'm glad you enjoyed my car analogy.

At this point you're just being ridiculous. The text is not blurry. If you think it is, you need glasses. No one is going to buy and keep a tablet with actual blurry letters. When people start making stuff up to try and prove their point, that's when it's confirmed that they are a little too emotionally invested in their pointless argument. The Note is in fact a niche product. You are correct. But that doesn't mean it's crap. And if you didn't notice, OP bought the Note. So clearly they were objective to the overall decision. Originally you tried calling me out for not being able to give both products a reasonable review because of my emotional attachment to the Note. Clearly YOU are the one who needs to take that advice. Owning both doesn't necessarily create the ability to be reasonable, as you are proof of that. You also keep saying that you are simply advocating for the Nexus 10, but in reality all you keep doing is tearing down the Note. At this point, we all know the PPI of the Note. Please move on to something else because obviously we haven't been fooled into thinking it's always worth it to trade functionality for appearance.

And I am not getting bothered by you bashing the Note. You are entirely entitled to your opinion. I am being bothered by your pompous responses to everyone who is actually trying to have an educated discussion about two great devices. They both have pro's and con's but you are incapable of seeing the cons in your own device which destroys a lot of your credibility. You said earlier that no device is perfect. Time for you to stop acting like one is and the other is complete crap. That just isn't the case. The N10 is amazing, but it doesn't have the functionality of the S Pen that the Note has. That's what it boils down to. And the N10 isn't that superior in build quality. Both are manufactured by Samsung at the same exact point in time. The N10 probably is one very small step up in quality and only because Google would have demanded it. But even then, the Note is perfectly respectable in it's build.

How about we all move on? The OP and a few others have chosen thanks to us so let's just let this thread die.

Dang it. I was thoroughly enjoying the thoughts that were actually intelligent and well thought out. It's a great conversation to discuss such similar products and the pro's and con's of each. But Demonic, you are right. Once the thread is hijacked and utterly destroyed by immaturity, it's no fun anymore. Thanks Zarathustra for your thread homicide. Anyone still deciding between the two, enjoy whichever device you choose. Both are fantastic.
