Nexus 4 Electric Adapter Problem

Hi everyone, I just got my Nexus 4 yesterday (finally) however I have a bad experience in dealing with google's customer service regarding a problem about my USB adapter that come with it.

So my adapter is defective and when I called Google to replace it, they told me that they can't replace just the adapter, what they ask me to do is to send my whole package (including the device that i have used) to get a new replacement, and I repeat: ONLY FOR A SINGLE USB ADAPTER!!

The problem is I have added almost all my contacts and sync all major data to my phone, I just don't want to waste my time and do it again if I get a new phone. Moreover I'm leaving the country for at least a year at the end of the month (one of the reason why I'm getting Nexus 4 as it is unlocked) and I'm afraid that it will take some time for me to get the whole package and send it back to them.

I've asked google to just send me a new phone and I'll just exchange the USB adapter and send it back to them, however they refuse to do that. What they suggest me to do is to contact LG directly and ask for the USB adapter which I think is TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! I bought this phone from Google and as a customer I won't care where do they get the device from, what I know is that I buy it from google and google should be responsible for their mistake. I asked them if Google will give me any compensation if LG charge me for the USB adapter replacement and they say NO! This is plainly idio* and stupi*! I'm just wondering why do they have a very "stiff" procedure for customer which is totally doesn't make sense!

Actually I won't mind just to buy an after market USB adapter as I don't think it will matter (the adapter that come with nexus has a 5V-1.2A rating while most USB adapter has the same rating with higher current, does anyone know if this is a problem?) AFAIK, the voltage is the most important thing as it need to be at 5V but current wise, as long as it's not too big then that's the same. Please CMIIW).

With this said, I'm also concern what will happen if something is wrong with my phone? Will google be responsible with it after 15 days period? Will I need to deal directly with LG?

Thanks for your help! Sorry if I seems to complaint a lot, I just had a "serious debate" with one of google's customer service supervisor which is not helpful at all, this really makes me upset!

It's funny that you should post this. I have another thread going about ridiculous charge times. After a great suggestion I downloaded battery monitoring widget to determine what kind of consumption and outputs I'm getting out of my Nexus 4. I found that with my friends charger I would get over +500 mA at all times, but sometimes more, but meaning that with the avg - 500 mA consumption of the N4 her charge was over 1000 mA. With the wall adapter (and USB to computer, although low output here makes sense) I get just enough mA to keep the device alive, meaning an output of 500 mA from the charger.

In fact I just switched out the adapter with an iPhone adapter and I'm getting much better charging outputs.

Doesn't everyone have, like, a dozen micro-USB cables lying around? I could probably put my hands on at least 10 within 50 feet of where I'm sitting right now.

the problem is that my stock wall to usb adapter is not working a.k.a dead on arrival. so i'm asking google to replace it since i pay for it.

it's not the cable, it's the wall to usb adapter that is faulty. the cable works totally fine

btw thanks for all the responses. i'm just upset with how google treat customer this way, how come they have such a "stiff" procedure??

Probably have a half dozen of those, too :)

Anyways, Google isn't a hardware retailer, they don't keep that kind of stock on hand. They'd probably have to break a sealed phone package open just to get another charger for you.

The idea of sending my hard-earned N4 back because of a charger is anathema. I understand that you want a working charger, but seriously, I'd try to get over it. 1A and higher chargers can be had on Amazon for $10. Call Google back and ask for a shipping refund, $10 Google Play credit, something. I bet they'll help you out so long as you don't demand and only accept a charger.

edit: I am using my N7 charger - 2 amps and it's plenty fast. My wife is using her Kindle charger, .85 amps and she says it is fast. The N4 comes with a 1.2 amp charger, FYI.
