Ditching verizon next month and going to t mobile prepaid. These look to be the best choices without spending $600 on a phone. Is the nexus worth $100 more than the l9? What about it makes it worth the extra money? Is it just a little faster, little bigger screen, that sort of stuff? Batteries are close in size, would expect them to last about the same, coming from a droid charge I am hoping for a big difference there. How about durability is one sturdier than the other? Any other phones I should consider? Thanks.

Neither. HTC One running stock Android.

If I was willing to spend that much the One would be at the top of the list, the front facing speakers are nice. It's just too much to spend right now, I have to buy 2 phones, the wife doesn't want the cups and string phone.

What did you end up going with? I'm in the same conundrum, moving to T-Mobile next week! The L9 is $175 on EBay brand new T-Mobile retail box, the Nexus 4 16GB is ~$380 on Google Play after taxes and shipping. You could stick with your current phone and hope the rumors of a $350 iPhone in the fall are true. That's what my better half is doing.

- The Nexus 4 has a better processor (1.5 GHz vs. 1.0GHz, quad-core vs. dual-core), which means you might get 3-4 years out of the phone with it still being able to run "new" apps well. Not sure that's the case with the L9.

- Nexus 4 has a larger screen size but there's a YT video showing them side-by-side and the L9 screen actually has more usable space because the Nexus 4 has to use some space for the menu buttons.

- Nexus 4 seems hugely popular, so if you're going to hack on it with Root and custom ROMs that's probably the better option.

- The L9 supports an expansion card, so you can get +32GB ($25) of storage whereas the Nexus 4 you're stuck with 8 or 16 and no ability to upgrade. 8GB is not much space if you sync iTunes.

- Nexus 4 has a better camera, L9 camera is < MP (5MP vs 8MP) and gets consistently "it's not all that great" reviews.

- The Nexus 4 is sealed, so you can't change the battery which might be an issue if you get one that goes bad outside of the warranty period.

I really want a Nexus 4, but hard to justify the $200 extra for a phone that's not all that different...

I would go with the Nexus 4. It is stock android firmware without any bloatwares and would be among the first to receive any updates released by Google.

You may want to consider the S3 too. It has a lot of support from developers and community.
