nexus 4 touch responsiveness

Do you have touch screen problems with the nexus 4?

NOT TRUE. I have ordered several Nexus 4 and here is the real Deal. You can search on the internet, but the above statement is not true at all. People can feel free to flame me, but it grates on me when people start defending the undefendable.... but hey, if i say something and some one disagree's who is right...? We would both be speaking from experience... but i want to give context to my experiences. Also for all those who read one negative comment i make about the Nexus 4 and start flaming.. please read the whole paragraph..!

My genuine experience with 4 Nexus 4's. Ordered at different intervals for 3 people - All post Feb devices (I had 2, sold one and kept the other)

1) Nexus 4 screen sensitivity IS LOW. Search Google and you will see. Compared to iphone OR some other good touch devices like HTC, S3, the nexus 4 needs slightly more pressure for the screen to recognised the touch. I was disappointed as with single fused layer i thought it would be more sensitive. The best example would be - TOUCH an icon lightly. I mean very lightly, and you will see the nexus not respond. Do the same pressure on iphone and BAM... instant response. *** HOWEVER this can be fixed via software hack...google more to find out. I was hoping Google would fix this on the 4.22 update but they did not.

So Why are the above people saying only defective units have lower touch sensitivity and their ones do not have an issue? Simple, they are used to less sensitive devices OR press a little more harder than i do. Having had it for several months i have now become used to it, so not a problem as i first felt for several weeks.

2) CHROME and other PINCH TO ZOOM apps: Again use chrome and use firefox and see what i mean. Chrome detects pinch to zoom after 1.5cm apart. This makes it really cluncky. I thought this was a no seller, but then when i used firefox, it recognises pinch to zoom instantly like iphone and s3 etc. So again this is software implementation. Funny thing is GOOGLE updated chrome and says pinch to zoom and response increased BUT THEY DID JACK as it remains the same.

So there you have it. Not from one Nexus, but from 4 Nexus from different times. With time you get used to it , but was a really issue when i first had it and would not recognise my finger touch! Again i would say none of the devices i bought are / were defective and i did not return any of them.

As an example, the one i bought for my friend, he says he has no issues whatsoever on the touch sensitivity... so i played with it and its the same as mine, there is a difference, its just that he never had a touch phone so could not appreciate the fine difference.

MAJOR HOPE IN KEY LIME PIE is that they make it more sensitive PLUS they make chrome pinch to zoom more responsive. Thankfully its all software based, so it can be done. There is a developer thread on android asking google to investigate this issue.

Thanks.

I don't doubt the validity of your statement, but it looks like you got really unlucky considering at 19 (at the time of writing) other people have reported no problems.

Same here, I haven't run into any of those problems. Either there have been some defective units that were sold in batches (a common occurrence on most phones these days) or the people experiencing it could all be running something similar on their phones causing it

I had a first batch Nexus 4, which had serious issues. One of the biggest was certainly the screen responsiveness.

Due to all the problems, I finally replaced my phone and got the new one, which now has the bumps at the bottom and the smaller lens. Although I thought they would be minor changes, those aren't the only ones I noticed. I also noticed that the screen responsiveness was so much better.

I was lucky enough to get 1st batch Nexus 4 back in November. No issues with touch response ever.

It's the snappiest Android phone I've ever used.

the nexus 4 indeed has poorer sensitivisty and other phones in the market such as thr s3 or iphone. ive had all and the nexus sensitivity, although acceptable, is not the best. you can press the screen lightly and have no response, whereas on the iphone the lightest touch would register an input.

Not my experience at all. I find the touch about the same as a few other smart phones I have had, and will include my daughters iPhone in that comparison. I also have an SGP screen protector on my Nexus 4

I've bought two more since my first reply in this thread. One is fine, one had to be returned because the touch response was very "slow".

How lame. 1) my touch screen is very sensitive. I can, doing like you say, very very slowly come down on an icon and very very lightly touch the screen and get no response. Of course, I can't think of a situation where I would be touch the screen like that anyways. Touching the screen in a normal way responds quickly and intended action populates instantly. 2) this has nothing to do with the topic. I do find pinch to zoom horrible with Chrome. In fact, I don't like Chrome at all overall, which is why I use ASOP browser. But the fact that pinch to zoom is not so great with Chrome has less to do with the N4 and everything to do with Chrome.

I've had no problems with how responsive it is to touch and everything working as smooth as ever with the swipe gestures etc.

I got instant response on mine with a light touch. I have complaints about the Nexus 4, but the touch sensitivity is not one of them. It has been great on my phone.

Hi please could you tell me how did you reinstall stock ROM and update to 4.2.2? I am having issues with my touch on the top right hand side of my n4.

Not lame at all. I can tell you my experience from coming for an iDevice. They were super responsive. The first week or so i took me to adjust to this lower sensitivity level. I would constantly miss swipes and presses, but mainly swipes. after few weeks i am more used to it. Some people say there one is super responsive. Clearly the fact that you can replicate my findings suggests your one is as "faulty" like the 4 i have had the pleasure to touch!

On a serious note, my brother inlaw is going to return his after 3 months and get a replacement for another unrelated problem. i shall see if the new one behaves like mine or not.

I have problems with it being too responsive. I can't talk on the phone handsfree (holding it by my shoulder) without hanging up on the person or pressing a bunch of numbers. Its super frustrating!!!

That's not touch screen responsiveness...

You are having an issue with the proximity sensor not registering. It is in the upper left corner of the screen.

Do you have a screen protector? Does it have a cut-out in that area for the sensor?

Either way... The fix is easy. Clean that area thoroughly with a dry, soft cloth and remove all the oils from your skin. That should allow the sensor to register when the phone is near your face and put the screen to sleep.
